*The Vince Staples Show* is almost impossible to describe, and that's just how Vince Staples likes it.
Starring the rapper/actor as a fictionalized version of himself, *The Vince Staples Show* is part episodic comedy, part social satire, part surrealist exploration of urban anxiety — and 100 percent original.
"Hearing that it can't be described is a compliment to me, because we're trying to do something new and refreshing," Staples tells **. In season 2, says Staples, "we're seeing what else we can add to the universe while keeping our same strong point of view from Vince and the other characters."
EW has an exclusive first look at *The Vince Staples Show* season 2, which premieres Thursday, November 6 on Netflix. The six-episode sophomore season finds Vince mourning the death of Uncle James (Beau Billingslea) and going on a road trip with his mom, Anita (Vanessa Bell Calloway), and sister, Bri (Naté Jones). He'll also have to cope with the aftermath of his deadly altercation with a childhood enemy (Patrick Walker) in the season 1 finale, "White Boy."
"It will definitely play a part in Vince's emotional state in season 2 and the surrounding mood," says Staples of the violent confrontation. "We're utilizing a lot of the stress and anxiety that you felt Vince deal with in season 1, and we're gonna allow it to boil over and put him in some very interesting positions" in season 2.

Viewers first met Uncle James in the season 1 episode "Brown Family," where he gave Vince some valuable advice about how to handle his financial success — and appeals from family members who ask him for money. "Your success means so much to the people around you that they can't help to just try to be involved," Uncle James told Vince, before disappearing and leaving his nephew to man the grill at the family reunion.
Uncle James' death prompts Vince's road trip in episode 2, which will put a welcome spotlight on Calloway's Anita, as well as Jones' Bri, who only made a brief appearance in the season 1 premiere. "We have a very strong ensemble and it's hard to get everybody in there," says Staples, "but she definitely does have more of a role this season."

While some other characters from the first season will also return, Staples says "the primary focus" of season 2 is on Vince himself. "The main motif of the show is Vince playing fish out of water, so we're building upon that," he explains.
Asked to tease what's happening in the photo below — featuring a formal dinner party in episode 5 — Staples is coy. "Vince ends up in a situation that he could not have predicted and he tries to make the best out of it without reaching a boiling point," he says. "He runs into a new array of people who have these high jinks that he has to navigate around."

*The Vince Staples Show* received largely positive reviews, and Netflix renewed it for a second season three months after its premiere. While Staples seems open to a third season, he also maintains a characteristic equanimity about the future of his eponymous series. "We know how this works, that's not up to me. Hopefully people watch season 2," he says. "I don't make things for reactions. I don't pay much attention to it, honestly. I'm just happy that people watched it and we were able to do it again."
