- *The View* stars Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar responded to an interview question about slowing down.

- Behar said "creative people don't really retire," while Goldberg asked, "Who can afford to do that?"

- The White House previously speculated to ** that Behar's liberal bias on *The View* could lead to the show's cancelation.

The White House might've previously told ** that it wants Joy Behar to move to another country, but the 82-year-old — and her longtime friend and *The View* colleague, Whoopi Goldberg — have maintained that they're not leaving the show's set in the United States any time soon.

"We are starting our new season, because were are very much here, and live," Goldberg said Monday on the show's season 29 premiere.

Shortly after, both Goldberg and Behar spoke to *Entertainment Tonight*, during which they fielded questions about slowing down and taking a step back from their professional endeavors as they age.**

"I've gotten older, and now I'm proud that I got this far," Goldberg, who turns 70 in November, responded, while Behar said in a separate interview that she used to be "upset that I was 50" earlier in life, but she's "not upset anymore" over aging.

"From 50 on, I think I really got it together really well," Behar said. "My career, where my head is at, my anxiety levels, it's been really a good ride."

When asked about stepping back from their respective endeavors, Behar maintained that "creative people don't really retire," and that she really likes "to write and create stuff," such as her recent New York City stage play, *My First Ex-Husband*.

Answering a similar question about slowing down — and if she ever thinks about it — Goldberg said, "Yeah, but who can afford to do that? If you don't marry well, you've got to keep working."

She later told the journalist, "I've got to keep paying those bills, baby."

Goldberg and Behar have come under fire from conservative personalities — both politically and from the general public — for their anti-Donald Trump views and liberal opinions that are often expressed at *The View*'s Hot Topics table.

Trump himself targeted Goldberg in October, when he criticized her comedy as "filthy dirty" in an incendiary comment referencing a years-prior moment when he hired her to do stand-up comedy at one of his casinos, but objected to the material in her act.

"I was filthy, and stand on that fact. I have always been filthy, and you knew that when you hired me. I headlined, babe, at your casino, which I might've continued to play had you not run it into the ground," Goldberg said in response. "How dumb are you? You hired me four times."

In one of the administration's many recent criticisms of Behar and fellow *View* panelists like Ana Navarro, the White House referred to Behar as "Joyless Behar" in a statement to EW addressing recent speculation by former *View* cohost Rosie O'Donnell that *The View* might be canceled over political pressures.

"Rosie O'Donnell and 'Joyless' Behar are irrelevant losers with too much time on their hands, whining about a failing talk show while everyday Americans are working hard," White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said in the message, referencing O'Donnell's recent move to Ireland to escape Donald Trump's second-term presidency. "Our country is better off with Rosie living abroad — and we can all hope 'Joyless' Behar will join her next!"

After Navarro slammed Latino Trumpers for voting for the president, whose administration has spearheaded a mass of controversial ICE deportations and raids, the White House issued another statement to EW, writing, "Just when you think Ana Navarro can't get any dumber, she proves you wrong."

*The View* airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.
