Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show will return to airwaves across ABC channels on Tuesday, six days after its controversial suspension, but not all U.S. households will be able to access the program.

Media group Nexstar, which operates the largest group of local TV stations across the U.S., announced Tuesday that it would continue to preempt *Jimmy Kimmel Live* and replace it with local programming.

Nexstar stood firm on the decision to yank the show off the air following comments Kimmel made about the death of far-right activist of Charlie Kirk, noting that they will "monitor the show as it returns to ABC."**

"We stand by that decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve," Nexstar said in a statement. **** Nexstar's decision comes a day after Sinclair Broadcasting Group announced it will continue to preempt on its stations *Jimmy Kimmel Live* when the show returns Tuesday. "Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show's potential return." Sinclair said in a statement.**

Kimmel drew ire from Brendan Carr, the Donald Trump-appointed chairman of Federal Communications Commission, Nexstar, and Sinclair last week after a remark about the alleged assassin of Kirk in his monologue.**

"We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize [Kirk's suspected killer] as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it," Kimmel said on Wednesday's show.**

ABC yanked the show off the air last Wednesday following public pressure from Carr and Nexstar. Sinclair Broadcasting Group also followed suit by preempting the show, calling on Kimmel to apologize and donate funds to the Kirk family and Turning Point USA, the conservative non-profit co-founded by Kirk.

Disney lifted the show's suspension Monday following a maelstrom of national attention, announcing the show's imminent return after several days of "thoughtful conversations" with Kimmel.

The decision comes in the wake of Hollywood figures and politicians alike condemning Disney and calling for a boycott of the corporation. Congressional Democrats have also tied Nexstar's impending acquisition of rival media company Tegna, which notably requires FCC approval, to the decision to preempt Kimmel.
