The upcoming *Harry Potter* audiobooks are finally giving voice to their Hogwarts professors.

Pottermore Publishing and Audible unveiled the new group of actors joining the previously announced cast for the productions of J.K. Rowling's original seven books about the young boy wizard. The star-studded list includes two *Game of Thrones* alums, a former *Pirates of the Caribbean* star, and an *X-Men*.

Iwan Rheon for Audible

Kit Harington stars as Professor Lockhart alongside former *Game of Thrones *costars Gemma Whelan as Professor Sprout and Iwan Rheon as Professor Lupin; *Pirates of the Caribbean* film franchise star Keira Knightley voices Professor Umbridge; *His Dark Materials* star Ruth Wilson voices Bellatrix Lestrange; *One Day* stars Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall are Nymphadora Tonks and Bill Weasley, respectively; *Star Trek* alum Simon Pegg voices Arthur Weasley; James McAvoy voices Mad-Eye Moody; and Matt Berry is Sir Cadogan.**

"I am absolutely thrilled to bring the fiercely determined Mad-Eye Moody to life in these dynamic audio editions from Pottermore and Audible," McAvoy said in a statement. "He's such a layered character, constantly shifting between battle-hardened intensity and unexpected moments of wisdom. Capturing his commanding presence was incredibly fun. The depth and detail in these new audio editions is unparalleled — listeners are going to be delighted."

Woodall added, "In creating Bill Weasley's adventures through voice, it is genuinely special to be part of bringing this world to life in a new way for listeners. From the stellar cast to the immersive sound world that Pottermore and Audible have put together, listeners everywhere will be given a new way to be transported directly into these celebrated stories."**

The stars join the previously announced group of actors, including *House* alum Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, with *Succession* alum Matthew Macfadyen voicing Lord Voldemort, *Sound of Metal *star Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape, *Doctor Who* alum Michelle Gomez as Professor McGonagall, and *The Good Wife* alum Cush Jumbo as the narrator.

The main trio of wizards will be portrayed by two groups of young actors across the seven audiobooks: Frankie Treadaway, Max Lester, and Arabella Stanton will play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger respectively in the first three, while Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan, and Nina Barker-Francis will take over the roles of older Harry, Ron, and Hermione respectively beginning in the fourth through to the seventh and final audiobook.

Stanton is pulling double duty; She will also play Hermione in the upcoming HBO TV series. The young actress will be seen onscreen alongside Dominic McLaughlin as Harry and Alastair Stout as Ron, as well as Lithgow as Dumbledore.**

Additional cast members will be announced later this fall.

Chris Columbus says a 'Harry Potter' reunion is 'impossible' because of J.K. Rowling's transphobia

Pedro Pascal doubles down on J.K. Rowling callout over anti-trans law: 'Bullies make me f‑‑‑ing sick'

Pedro Pascal attends the "From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina" world premiere at Cineworld Leicester Square on May 22, 2025 in London, England; J.K. Rowling attends the premiere of "Finding the Way Home" at Hudson Yards on December 11, 2019 in New York City

The unveiling of the audiobooks was met with ire from social media users amid ongoing controversy surrounding Rowling's continued anti-trans rhetoric. Stars of the upcoming TV series have similarly received backlash for their involvement in the expansion of Rowling's franchise because of the author's controversial politics.

Some have responded with indifference; in April, Lithgow told *U.K.'s Sunday Times* that Rowling was not a factor holding him back from joining the production.

Others have responded by showing their support for the LGBTQ+ community; Gomez posted a message to her Instagram Stories directed to "my LGBTQ+ fans, and especially the trans community," in which she said she was committed to "taking accountability where it's needed."

Nick Frost, who will play Hogwarts groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid in the series, spoke out in June to assert that Rowling's views and his "just don't align in any way, shape or form." And when asked if he worries that the controversy could "overshadow the series," Frost responded, "I don't know. But maybe it shouldn't blow over? We shouldn't just hope it will go away, because it makes it easier. Maybe we should educate ourselves."

*Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions* feature over 200 actors performing the stories with "immersive audio entertainment through high-quality sound design in Dolby Atmos, stunning scoring ... original music, and real-world sound capture," according to the official release. Production is "nearly wrapped" now, with over 2,000 recording hours logged so far.

These new audiobooks join the previously-released single-voice recordings by Dale and Fry, which first debuted in 1999. The original recordings will still be available for listeners as "classic editions," along with the complete *Harry Potter *audiobook collection on Audible.
