The author and model explained in the recently released ABC special *Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey *that Bruce now resides in a nearby "second home" with his 24-hour health team. **
"It was one of the hardest decisions that I've had to make," Emma told ABC News correspondent Diane Sawyer in a sit-down interview. "But I knew, first and foremost, Bruce would want that for our daughters. He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs."

Emma explained that the single-story home Bruce now resides in is easier for the *Sixth Sense* actor to navigate and allows his friends and family to see him whenever they'd like. She visits every morning for breakfast and every evening. **
"We are there a lot," she said in the interview. "It's our second home, so the girls have their things there. It is a house that is filled with love and warmth and care and laughter, and it's been beautiful to see that."

Bruce had starred in countless celebrated films and television shows — including *Moonlighting, The Fifth Element, *and* Sin City — *before his family announced in 2022 that he would be stepping away from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia, a neurological disorder that impairs one's ability to communicate. The following year, the family revealed that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia, for which there is currently no cure.

Earlier in her interview for *The Unexpected Journey*, Emma confirmed that Bruce is "still very mobile" and in "really great health overall," but that "his brain is failing him."**
She added that he is losing his ability to communicate. "The language is going, and, you know, we've learned to adapt," Emma said. "And we have a way of communicating with him, which is just a... different way."
She explained that the family gets "moments" when they can see Bruce's personality shine through. "It's his laugh, right? Like, he has such a hearty laugh," she said. "And, you know, sometimes you'll see that twinkle in his eye, or that smirk, and, you know, I just get, like, transported."
