- Sally Field's son Sam Greisman called Kim Davis a "hideous bitch" in a social media post.
- Davis, who has been divorced more than once, was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.**
- A Liberty Counsel rep doubled down on Davis' intent to ask the Supreme Court to overturn gay marriage ruling.
A representative for the controversial previously jailed ex-Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis has responded to Sally Field's son Sam Greisman calling her a "hideous bitch" for filing an appeal asking the Supreme Court to overturn its landmark *Obergefell v. Hodges *gay marriage ruling.
When reached for comment on Greisman's Monday afternoon X post, a media representative for Davis and lawyer Mathew D. Staver at the Liberty Counsel tells* * via email that "Sam's childish post does not deserve a response."
The response goes on to highlight a press release that doubles down on Davis and Staver's "optimistic" commitment to asking the Supreme Court to overturn *Obergefell*, which, in 2015, found that same-sex couples in the LGBTQ community have the fundamental, constitutional right to marry.
"Kim Davis asked for a reasonable accommodation of her religious belief – to remove her name from the marriage certificates. She was granted that request by the newly elected governor, Matt Bevin, in December 2015, and the legislature unanimously passed a law in April 2016 allowing clerks to remove their names from the certificates. Yet, she was sued, imprisoned for six days, and now faces a judgment of more than $360,000 in her personal capacity," the release states.

It continues, "We are asking the Court to affirm her First Amendment defense and to overturn *Obergefell v. Hodges*. We are optimistic because three Justices on the bench dissented in *Obergefell* (Chief Justice Roberts, Thomas, and Alito). Five Justices in the *Dobbs* decision that overturned *Roe v. Wade* ruled that substantive due process is not grounded in the Constitution and that the Court should remain neutral when the Constitution does not provide a right. *Obergefell* is likewise grounded in the now rejected substantive due process, and the Court should remain neutral regarding marriage as it did in 2022 regarding abortion. The issue should return to the states."
The response finishes with a note that "we believe this is the case that can overturn *Obergefell*." (EW has reached out to a representative for Greisman for comment.)
Davis' documents asking the Supreme Court to repeal *Obergefell* state that the ruling "was wrong when it was decided and it is wrong today because it was grounded entirely on the legal fiction of substantive due process," claiming that it "should be overturned because — assuming that the substantive due process fiction remains — it failed to follow the judge-invented inquiry outlined" in *Washington v. Glucksberg. *

EW has reached back out to Davis' representative for comment on criticism over her own history with marriage, as many social media users pointed out that Davis has been divorced several times, per CBS News.
Greisman's mother, Oscar-winning actress Field, has firmly and publicly supported her son and queer community's rights over the years. In a 2014 piece for IndieWire, Field said that having a gay son is "one of the great privileges" in life. "Sam is my youngest son, by 18 years, and he's gay. To that, I say: So what?"
Speaking to EW in 2016, Field added that she was horrified by "parents who so disapprove, who are so brainwashed to think that this is something out of the Bible or ungodly or against nature. It's not against nature if nature has actually done this. Sam was always Sam, this wonderful human that he is, from the time he was born."

Hollywood figures have raised concerns in recent months over the threat they feel President Donald Trump's administration has posed to LGBTQ+ rights, including conservative politicians' stances on things like gay marriage and trans women competing in women's sports.
In an interview with EW, *RuPaul's Drag Race* season 17 star Hormona Lisa, who is trans, said she was scared by the administration's stances, and that she feels like "these people don't see us as human."
