*ParaNorman* is coming back to theaters 13 years later and bringing with it a new story set in the same universe.

Released in 2012 from the stop-motion animation studio Laika (*Coraline*, *Kubo and the Two Strings*), the family-friendly and PG-rated horror movie introduced Norman Babcock (Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is not only able to see the dead but often prefers their company over the living. *ParaNorman: The Thrifting*, a new short film accompanying a theatrical re-release, will now expand on this world — this time with CG animation.

As seen in **'s exclusive trailer reveal above, the short follows Norman (now voiced by Brayden Gleave), his older sister Courtney, and friend Neil (Beckett James Maillard) as they head to a curiosity shop called Ye Olde Grimporium in search of a Halloween costume. Of course, spooky happenings ensue as Norman and Neil realize there are more than just dusty antiques on the store shelves. Courtney, however, is busy flirting with the moody shop clerk.**

Anna Kendrick reprises her voice role as Courtney from the movie, while *Stranger Things* star Finn Wolfhard voices a never-before-seen character (the aforementioned shop clerk) named Chad, who you catch a glimpse of in the footage.

Wolfhard previously said how he saw *ParaNorman* "at the perfect age," noting how it "blends so many genres together in such a great way."

"It really pays respect to old horror films, but it also is very sweet, and you can see it with your family," the actor said in a video taken from the Laika voiceover recording booth.

Laika's lead character designer Thibault LeClercq directed *ParaNorman: The Thrifting*, which was written by the movie's co-director and scribe Chris Butler.**

The original *ParaNorman* will be released back into theaters in newly remastered 3D and 2D formats by way of Fathom Entertainment starting Oct. 25-28 in the U.S. (Trafalgar Releasing will distribute the re-release for international markets beginning on Oct. 23.) The occasion? Laika's 20th anniversary.

The Oregon-based studio was founded in 2005 by president and CEO Travis Knight. *Coraline*, from *The Nightmare Before Christmas* mastermind Henry Selick, became Laika's first feature-length stop-motion animated film, followed by *ParaNorman*, *The Boxtrolls* (2024), *Kubo and the Two Strings* (2016), and *Missing Link* (2019). Another stop-motion piece, titled *Wildwood*, is on the docket for 2026, but Laika has since branched out into other film styles, including live-action.
