Rick Moranis has officially returned to movie acting for his first major live-action role since 1997. On Thursday, Amazon released the first photo from the *Spaceballs* sequel table read featuring Moranis, Bill Pullman, Mel Brooks, and more.

The *Little Shop of Horrors* star joined his fellow returning castmates for the first official table read for the upcoming *Spaceballs* sequel, with a photo teasing not only his reunion with Pullman, Brooks, George Wyner, and Daphne Zuniga, but also new cast additions including Josh Gad and Keke Palmer.

In the photo (below), Moranis and the returning cast sit in a circle alongside the new stars in between reading the script co-written by Gad and *Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy* scribes Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.

*Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar* filmmaker Josh Greenbaum will direct the project, with production now underway, according to a press release.

Moranis, Zuniga, Pullman, Brooks, and Wyner are set to reprise their iconic roles in the sequel to the 1987 sci-fi spoof, with Gad, Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan playing new, undisclosed characters.

"After 40 years we asked, 'What do the fans want?' But, instead, we're making this movie," Brooks said in a prior video message announcing the film, before speaking one of the iconic lines from the original as he signed off saying, "May the Schwartz be with you!"

While Moranis has lent his voice to a few projects over the years, including Disney's 2003 animated film *Brother Bear *and its 2006 sequel *Brother Bear 2*, his most recent leading role in a live-action film was Disney's 1997 direct-to-video *Honey, I Shrunk the Kids* sequel *Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves. *

His voice also appeared in a 2018 episode of *The Goldbergs*, titled "Spaceballs," as well as in a 2020 episode of the Disney+ docuseries *Prop Culture*.

Ryan Reynolds recruited Moranis for a Mint Mobile advertisement in 2020, while the actor also made headlines for an unfortunate circumstance later that year when he was assaulted in New York City.
