- Harris said that "people are coming up to me crying" ever since the election loss.

- "All I could say over and over again was, 'My God, my God, my God.' It was very difficult."

Vice President Kamala Harris opened up about her painful election loss to Donald Trump during an emotional appearance Thursday on *The View*.

Harris made her way to the talk show set for a live discussion about her upcoming book *107 Days*, where she immediately fielded a question from Joy Behar about the kind of reception she's received from the public since losing the November 2024 race against Trump.

"People are coming up to me crying," Harris told Behar, noting that many are still processing the loss in difficult ways.

After panelist Sara Haines questioned what went wrong following a "renewed sense of hope for Democrats" after Harris took over for Democrats when President Joe Biden stepped aside and endorsed her to succeed him, Harris revealed the grief and trauma she went through on election night.**

"That chapter in the book was probably one of the most difficult things that I had to reflect on and write about. In fact, Doug and I, my husband, it wasn't until I was writing that chapter that [I realized] we'd ever talked about election night," Harris replied, with Behar pointing out that it was "traumatic" for many people.

Harris replied, "It was that traumatic," before revealing that she inquired about the evening with a lot of people who shared "different perspectives" from the evening.

She said that she learned during research for the book that her husband actually discovered, before election night, that internal data she'd learned from an associate at Fox News that "suggested things were not looking great in Pennsylvania."

"The way I write about it, my poor husband, he didn't want to put that on me, he went upstairs and went in the shower and prayed that it was not going to be a bad night," Harris recalled. She added, "That night, I grieved in a way that I have not since my mother died. And the pain was not at all about losing a race, I knew what it was going to mean for the country."

Harris continued, "I knew what it was going to mean, but I knew. And all I could say over and over again was, 'My God, my God, my God. It was very difficult. Many people experienced it in different ways."

She added that she felt she "didn't have enough time" to mount a better campaign, and that's what likely led to the election loss.

Outside of Tuesday's appearance Harris' presence — both on the show and off — has played a vital role in *The View*'s history, both recent and otherwise.

In addition to the cohosts getting into memorable spats over Harris' bid for the presidency, during a pre-2024 election interview on the show in October of last year, Harris responded to one of Hostin's questions that inquired about differentiating herself from President Biden's policies.

Harris was widely derided by the right for telling Sunny Hostin that there was "not a thing that comes to mind" — a moment that many considered to be a devastating blow to her campaign that played a key role in her eventual election loss.

Later, Biden told *The View* cohosts in May that he "wasn't surprised" Harris lost against Trump.

"Not because I didn't think the vice president was qualified to be president," he clarified. "She is, she's qualified to be president of the United States of America. I was surprised because they went the sexist route, the whole route. 'This is a woman,' she's this, she's that, really, I've never seen as successful and consistent [of a] campaign undercutting the notion that a woman couldn't lead the country — and a woman of mixed race."

Prior to that, Harris was famously scheduled to appear on *The View* in 2021, when cohosts Navarro and Hostin were escorted off stage live on the air after it was revealed that they tested positive for COVID ahead of the vice president's interview.

*The View* airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.**
