*Downton Abbey* stars Laura Carmichael and Michael C. Fox have a sweet reason to be grateful to the show — their marriage!
The costars — who play characters Lady Edith and Andrew Parker — confirmed that they tied the knot during an NBC special promoting the franchise's final feature film, *Downton Abbey Celebrates The Grand Finale, *as reported by TODAY.com.
Carmichael, 39, has portrayed Lady Edith throughout the franchise's entirety, while Fox, 36, joined the show in its fifth season. The couple first sparked dating rumors in 2016 and reportedly welcomed a son in 2021.

"I owe a lot to this show," Fox said while looking back on how the nearly 15 years since *Downton Abbey* first aired in January 2011 has impacted his life. "So much of my life has been shaped around this show."
Carmichael smiled as their costar Leslie Nicol, who plays the show's notoriously cook Mrs. Patmore, asked her partner, "What if someone said you're actually going to find your wife and have a child? Life-changing stuff."
Both Fox and Carmichael agreed with her sentiment, with Fox adding, "It's incredible."
The pair has kept their relationship fairly private, aside from a photo posted to Instagram here and there.**
During a September 2019 interview with U.K. chat show *This Morning*, Fox confirmed he met then-girlfriend, Carmichael, on the show and described "working together" as "interesting."
"But when we get back into a big team, big family, you get back into it, and we keep things slightly separate," he added. "But it was an absolute joy."

Since its premiere in 2011, *Downton Abbey *has bid audiences adieu a few times — first, with its television finale after six seasons; then, over the course of two films, any one of which could have been a satisfactory conclusion for this cadre of characters.
But fans will finally have the chance to officially say goodbye to the beloved characters when *Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale *hits theaters on Sept. 12. The film picks up only seven months after the conclusion of *Downton Abbey: A New Era, *taking audiences into a new decade and a world without the indomitable presence of the Dowager Countess, Violet Crawley. (The character has died, as has the woman who so memorably played her, Maggie Smith.)

Simon Curtis, who returns to the director's chair following his stint helming 2022's *Downton Abbey: A New Era, *told EW that he "really wanted to lean" into this being the final farewell that audiences would have with the world Julian Fellowes created.
"If you talk to hair and makeup, and costume, they take that seven months very seriously indeed," Curtis quips, noting that despite the relatively brief time gap, *The Grand Finale *makes a point of leaning into the changing mores and styles of the 1930s.
The film introduces several new characters and storylines to audiences — including the cast's newest addition, Gus Sambrook, as played by Alessandro Nivola — and shows a day at the races at the iconic Royal Ascot. But while there is lots of new, Curtis acknowledged that at this point, *Downton *is a bit of a nostalgia hit for audiences — and he wanted to deliver on that while giving the characters a hearty sendoff.

"I've lived with *Downton Abbey* for 15 years, and there's something so powerful and poignant about saying goodbye to these characters who feel like a family to the whole world," he reflected. "There's a nostalgia, not only for the time in which it was set, but for when people on both sides of the Atlantic first saw *Downton Abbey.*"**
