Charlie Sheen is sharing his regret over not reconnecting with his late friend Matthew Perry prior to his untimely death.

Speaking to Page Six, the actor, 60, praised Perry's memoir *Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing*, released a year before the actor's death in October 2023 from a ketamine overdose at the age of 54. Sheen, who also has a history of drug addiction, said he devoured the book in just one day and expressed delight at being mentioned in it.

"It was brilliant," Sheen said of Perry's memoir. "I turned off my phone. I just said, 'Okay, this is all that matters right now.' And I'm in his book! It cracked me up when there's a story about me on the news and he was like, 'F--- Charlie Sheen, I'm going to be just as famous one day.'"**

"I was like, 'You go, Matt,'" Sheen continued, sharing that he intended to reach out but regrettably did not. "I was going to call him, just reach out and try to meet him up for a cup of coffee or something. And regrettably, I didn't. And Jesus, three weeks later, he died."**

In his memoir, which offers a candid account of his addiction struggles during the height of his fame on the hit sitcom *Friends*, Perry wrote about aspiring to stardom after watching a television report about Sheen and his own troubles with drug addiction.**

Sheen returns the favor by writing about his friendship with the late star in his own memoir, *The Book of Sheen*, released Tuesday. In it, Sheen recalls meeting the* Whole Nine Yards* star in 2007 through a private support group that Perry hosted at his home. "He spoke publicly of said group when he was still with us, so I'm not violating any code," Sheen prefaced in his memoir, writing, "Matt and I shared a deeper truth we saw in each other — we were both, as Bobby Dee Jay used to say 'veterans of the unspeakable.'"

(Sheen refers to fellow actor Robert Downey Jr., who has also spoken candidly about his past drug and alcohol addiction, as Bobby Dee Jay in his book.)**

"I was fascinated by Matt's ability to turn every frown upside down," the *Two and a Half Men* alum wrote of Perry. "I've never met anyone who more masterfully used humor as a deflector-shield to keep you just enough over *there*. I dug every minute we spent together — and over* there *with Matthew was much better than most people's front and center."

Sheen established "common ground instantly" with Perry due to their shared history of addiction, he told Page Six*.*

*The Book of Sheen *is on bookshelves now.**
