Chad Michael Murray has worked with a treasure trove of TV's hunkiest stars, and he can't help but gush about one in particular: fellow *Gilmore Girls* alum Milo Ventimiglia.
While talking a walk down memory lane for* *PEOPLE, the *Freaky Friday* star reflected on his days on the Amy Sherman-Palladino series and his tight-knit bond with his costars.
"I've known Milo for a long time now," Murray shared while flipping through a scrapbook of him and his costars over the years. "We've always crossed paths in and out."
Murray starred in the show's freshman series as Tristan Dugray, one of the pretty, preppy bad boys of Stars Hollow's Chilton Prep. Tristan regularly butted heads with Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel), whom he crushed on at their shared high school, occasionally leading to altercations with Jared Padalecki's Dean Forester, who was usually Rory's beau.

While Tristan and Rory juggled with their will-they-won't-they romance throughout season 1, Murray abruptly left the show in season 2, and his character never reappeared throughout the rest of the show's seven-season run. He also didn't encounter Ventimiglia when the latter joined the dramedy for season 2, playing Luke's (Scott Patterson) nephew and Rory's love interest, Jess Mariano.
But the two actors did get to work together on their TV series *Chosen*, an action-thriller series following a lawyer (Ventimiglia) who has been chosen by a mysterious organization known as The Watchers to participate in a lethal game. Ventimiglia also served as a producer for the series.
"One of the best jobs I've ever done," Murray told PEOPLE. "I actually met my wife [Sarah Roemer] on that show. So, he and I go way back and I love him like a brother. Good old Milo."**

While Murray didn't work with Ventimiglia on *Gilmore Girls*, he has nothing but praise for the costars he did appear with onscreen.
"I remember the audition for *Gilmore Girls* with Amy Sherman-Palladino," he recalled. "I remember being in the room. I remember the sun shining in the room through the curtains. And I remember getting the job and just being elated cuz this was the first recurring job that I'd ever received."
Murray remembered how young the cast was, saying, "We were all like first timers. Alexis was a first-timer. I was pretty young. Jared was a first-timer 'cause Jared, I think he was only 17 years old, maybe 18 when he first started on the show. So, we were all pretty brand new. A little wet behind the ears, as they say."
Chad Michael Murray says the reaction he got from 'Gilmore Girls' fans wasn't what you'd expect

Lindsay Lohan went wildly off-script to improvise sexy 'Freakier Friday' dance scene

"I came in early season 1, so, I think even if you're in episode 2, 3, 4, you still always feel like an outsider, right," Murray said of his time on the show. "You weren't there for the pilot and you know, they've done maybe an episode or two before you got there. So, they were finding their rhythm and I was a fish out of water. So, I was just trying to I was just trying to do the most I could with every scene."
While his character might not have ended up with the girl in the end, the role opened doors for Murray's career. Throughout the 2000s, the actor smoldered on series like *Dawson's Creek* (2001–2002), and *One Tree Hill* (2003–2012), not to mention the films *A Cinderella Story* (2004) and *House of Wax* (2005).
Following his six-season stint on *One Tree Hill*, Murray starred on *Chosen* (2013–2014), *Agent Carter* (2015–2016), and *Riverdale* (2019), among other buzzy series. Since 2023, he's featured on the Robyn Carr adaptation *Sullivan's Crossing* (2023–present) on The CW.
More recently, Murray reprised the iconic role of Jake from 2003's *Freaky Friday* for the sequel *Freakier Friday*, directed by Mark Waters and also starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
"When I asked the question, 'Where has he been?' I always thought Jake had a room somewhere, in the closet of his house, where he's got this wonderful Tess shrine, and that he's been in love with her and he keeps a faded photo of her in his wallet, but he still loves it and opens it up from time to time and touches it," Murray told EW ahead of the sequel's release. "That was all part of the backstory that was going along with who Jake is in this fantasy world that he's put himself in."
All that backstory paid off. EW's critic praised Murray's *Freakier Friday* performance for embodying the "same oblivious charm and golden retriever energy that made him so winning two decades ago."
