In the past, when fashion icon Anna Wintour was asked about Miranda Priestley, the icy magazine editor long assumed to be modeled after her in *The Devil Wears Prada*, she'd essentially respond using one of Miranda's most-quoted lines: "Please bore someone else with your questions."
But as the 75-year-old magazine industry legend transitions out of the role that launched her to notoriety, *Vogue* editor-in-chief, she's opening up about the comparisons that have dogged her for years.
"I went to the premiere wearing Prada, completely having no idea what the film was going to be about," she joked to *New Yorker *Editor David Remnick on Friday's episode of *The New Yorker Radio Hour* podcast.
"I think that the fashion industry were very sweetly concerned for me about the film, that it was going to paint me in some kind of difficult light," she continued. "Cartoonish," Remnick supplied, prompting Wintour to nod her head. "Yes, a caricature." But that isn't what she found once she actually watched the film.
"First of all it was Meryl Streep, which, fantastic," Wintour said, noting that the big bad wolf of the 2006 film's *Vogue *stand-in, *Runway Magazine*, was portrayed by the Oscar winner. "And then I went to see the film, and I found it highly enjoyable. It was very funny."

Wintour shared that she stills talks about the film "a lot" with Miuccia Prada, the chief designer at the famed Italian fashion house and the granddaughter of its founder, Mario Prada.
"I say to her, 'Well it was really good for you,' and you can imagine what she says back.'"******
Candice Bergen, mom of new 'Vogue' editor, played Anna Wintour-esque role on 'Sex and the City'

*The Devil Wears Prada *was a huge success upon its release, grossing $326 million worldwide on an estimated budget of $35 million. Over time, it's only woven itself deeper into the fabric of American cultural consciousness, spawning new memes, mottos, and social media trends each year.
Wintour has spent the last two decades avoiding *Devil Wears Prada *questions as much as possible, telling the BBC last year in typical fashion that it's "for the audience and for the people I work with to decide if there are any similarities between me and Miranda Priestly."
Fast forward nine months and a lot has changed in Wintour's life; while she will remain *Vogue*'s global editorial director and chief content officer for its parent company, Condé Nast, Wintour tapped Chloe Malle, the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and director Louis Malle, to replace her as head of the American edition's day-to-day operations.
"In the end," she reflected to Remnick, "It had a lot of humor to it, it had a lot of wit, it had Meryl Streep. I mean, it was Emily Blunt. They were all amazing. And in the end, I thought it was a fair shot."
