Julia Louis-Dreyfus got a major case of déjà vu while filming *Thunderbolts**.
When the actor returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as shady CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in the recent movie, her character was in some scalding hot water. She spent the majority of the movie defending herself in impeachment trial proceedings while simultaneously getting rid of any evidence that proved her guilt (which included ordering hits on the lives of her own agents).
Louis-Dreyfus tells * *that filming those impeachment trial scenes "completely" gave her flashbacks to her years starring on *Veep*.

"But we weren't playing the scene for comedy, obviously," Louis-Dreyfus says. "I mean, there's one little moment of comedy, but it's really a dramatic scene, so I had to sort of reinvent myself a little bit."
Getting to play a more serious version of a political story in the MCU was "completely" fun, Louis-Dreyfus adds. "That's what you want to do [as an actor]."
Louis-Dreyfus starred on the HBO political satire *Veep* for seven seasons from 2012-2019, winning six Emmys for her role as Vice President-turned-President Selina Meyer. Her *Thunderbolts** costar Sebastian Stan *also* played a President of the United States recently — portraying a young version of Donald Trump in 2024's *The Apprentice* — but Louis-Dreyfus laughs as she realizes they never spoke to each other about that on set.

"We didn't, actually," she says.
*Thunderbolts** renamed itself **The New Avengers *during the credits, after Val publicly took credit for Bucky (Stan), Yelena (Florence Pugh), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) saving the day from Bob's (Lewis Pullman) villainous alter ego, the Void. Val renamed their team the New Avengers against their will in front of live TV cameras, and the group had no choice but to go along with it. The new name seemed to stick, as the end credits ripped the *Thunderbolts* *title card down to debut: *The* *New Avengers.*

While Louis-Dreyfus is not on the long list of confirmed actors to appear in *Avengers: Doomsday,* she tells EW that she's "feeling very positive" about her return to the MCU in the future.
"I certainly hope so," she says. "I'm not at liberty to say, but I know that anything is possible and I'm up for more play in the Marvel universe at any moment. I stand at the ready."**
*Thunderbolts** is now streaming on Disney+.
