Would you take a test to find your soulmate?

The trailer for *All of You* (out Sept. 26) presents that provocative scenario: Laura (Imogen Poots) accompanies her best friend Simon (Brett Goldstein) to take a scientific test to find her soulmate, despite the two having their own romantic spark. Spoiler alert: The test results do not come back in Simon's favor. Directed by William Bridges, who co-wrote the film with Goldstein, this romantic drama explores what it means to find "the one." Get a glimpse of their complex feelings in the film's new trailer and poster, debuting exclusively with **.

At its core, the film challenges the concept of soulmates. "The idea that there's just one person for you is unrealistic," Goldstein tells EW. Despite the test results, Simon and Laura's undeniable connection tells a different story.

Goldstein and Bridges began working on the story a decade ago when they wrote a short film that would become the beginning of the movie. Two friends visit a clinic with one hoping to find a soulmate, despite the clear spark between them. "We kept talking about those two characters and what would happen next," Goldstein recalls.

*All of You* is both an epic love story and an intimate portrayal of two people who struggle to express their love for one another, told over the course of a decade. "You don't see them when they're apart, so as an audience, you have to do some detective work every time there's a time jump," Goldstein explains. "It makes you automatically lean in because every new section that starts, you're trying to figure out what you've missed, so it sort of engages people more."

"We just trusted the audience," Bridges tells EW over email, "we knew we wanted to give just enough clues in the context of where we were dropping the audience for them to work it out themselves. We used milestones in people's lives to help, a clubbing night, a wedding, a funeral, but really we wanted the focus to be on the subtle changes in Simon and Laura's relationship."

The nature of the story meant its success depended on the chemistry between the actors playing Simon and Laura, which Goldstein knew from the beginning. While the actors didn't know each other beforehand, a 5-minute Zoom call made it clear Poots would be Laura. "It's about trust. The film's very vulnerable," Goldstein says. "We can be safe with each other, and that allows you to be less worried about embarrassing yourself. She's a f---ing phenomenal actor, and I learned so much from working with her."

It's a sentiment Poots has echoed. "I had one of the best experiences of my life working on this film with Brett, and we love each other very much. There were some really hard bits of the film and some really wonderful bits of the film. It's so great to do it with somebody who's totally got your back and you trust implicitly," she told EW at TIFF in 2024.

Bridges was in awe of the duo's work in the film, and points to a standout moment in the trailer as an example: when the pair gets the opportunity to reconnect at a book event.

"They were both so perfect there, holding that line between wanting to say everything, and being cautious because of the hurt they've already been through. It's a delicate thing, and Brett and Imogen just broke me in that scene, shooting it, and then again cutting it together in the edit suite," he says.

Putting Poots and Goldstein together means that, despite the dramatic story, there will be many moments of levity. "We had one rule: We wanted it to feel very natural and real. Part of that there are no jokes in it. No one says anything that they wouldn't say in real life," he explains.

As for where Goldstein personally stands on the soulmate test, he admits, "Honestly, I change my mind depending on the day. Today I would not take the test because, much like Simon, I think it spoils the journey, but there are other days where I'm like, *Yeah, why not just know and get it over with*," he explains.
