- Belly tells Jeremiah about Conrad's confession of love, and the brothers finally have it out over her.
- Steven and Denise realize they have no chemistry, and he and Taylor share a moment after he defends her to Belly.
- Belly admits that she'll always love Conrad, and she and Jere call off the wedding.
- Waiting to board her flight to Paris, Belly spots Conrad at a nearby gate.
The wedding is *off*. Here's hoping Adam can get some of his deposits back.
Belly (Lola Tung) didn't take off her makeup before crashing following Conrad's confession, nor did she cry it off, and her bleary, smudged look is appropriate for what's to come in this episode of *The Summer I Turned Pretty*.
A text from Taylor (Rain Spencer) telling her that the house is empty makes her brave enough to scrub her face and head downstairs, where she bumps into Conrad (Christopher Briney) because of course she does. (He didn't want to spend the morning fishing with his hungover brother because, of course, he didn't.)
Con asks Belly to forget about last night, and when she objects, he brightens a little at her *not* wanting to forget it. But that's not at all what she meant, and she hisses at him to get out and never speak to her again.
But he doesn't go without a fight, and although she scoffs that it's been years since they dated, he reminds her that Christmas wasn't so long ago. Neither was the peach incident nor his surfing accident.
Although she insists that all meant nothing, they both know she's lying. After he leaves, she digs out Junior Mint the polar bear, wearing sunglasses and Conrad's infinity necklace, and decides that although Conrad makes her feel anger, sadness, and joy like nobody else, she can't blow up her life for him.

Taylor also reads Conrad the riot act for jerking Belly around, and he goes through a second round of confessing his feelings, which is a big weekend for our brave boy. But when Taylor tries to bring it up with her bestie at the spa, Belly wants to bury it and power through to the "I do's."
At the rehearsal, "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order plays as the Fisher brothers wait for Belly to walk down the aisle toward them. Aca-akward.
The highlights of the dinner afterward: Conrad compliments Kayleigh's (Emma Ishta) work on the tablescape; Taylor apologizes to Lucinda (Kristen Connolly) for being awful to her and learns that her mom knows what she sacrificed for her that summer; and Jere (Gavin Casalegno) got lobster rolls on the menu, which might be his greatest contribution to the wedding.
Belly and Conrad exchange intense glances before Jere pulls her away for the toasts, which are lovely until he toasts Conrad's loyalty. Then Conrad fails to control his "I just sucked on a lemon" face as Jere calls Belly his soulmate.
Afterward, Adam (Tom Everett Scott) tells Jeremiah how proud he is of him, and Belly's shocked to learn that he took a job at Breaker without running it past her. He says this'll let them get that nice apartment, but mostly I want her to GO. TO. PARIS.
Conrad bails on ice cream afterward, and Laurel (Jackie Chung) finds him brooding by the pool. He leans into the hand she rests on his cheek, clearly craving a mother's touch, and admits that this weekend's killing him.
"I wish—" he starts but doesn't finish, maybe because there are just too many things on that list.
At the inn, Steven (Sean Kaufman) and Denise (Isabella Briggs) finally kiss. It is not good. "Like kissing a plant," she declares, immediately pivoting to their partnership agreement. Well dang. That's that, then.
Belly's restless in bed that night, so she goes for a midnight swim and decides she can't start her marriage to Jeremiah on a lie. She slips into his room to tell him what Conrad said on the beach.

Jere cycles through all the stages of boy grief: I knew it, I'll kill him, how could he do this, are you leaving me, let's get married anyway. But the next morning, he's gone.
Steven reacts like a startled cat when Belly tells him, then pivots to comfort and action. He yells at Conrad for his brooding and his "sad boy whatever-the-f---" and orders him to fix what he broke.
So Conrad hops in his car and finds Jeremiah at Susannah's memorial garden. He offers to let Jere hit him, but his brother doesn't take him up on it until Connie brings up Cabo. Then Jere hits him twice.
It knocks the truth out of Conrad, who says he loves Belly, but she picked Jeremiah, so he needs to get himself back to his wedding.
He also gives Jeremiah a sealed envelope that Laurel gave him. It's the letter Susannah wrote to her youngest son to be read on his wedding day — or it's supposed to be. When Jere opens it, he finds that Susannah accidentally switched it with her letter for Conrad.
Through barely controlled tears, Jere tells Conrad that they're no longer brothers, shoving the letter at him and leaving.

Back at the club, Taylor's seen enough and tells Belly not to marry Jeremiah. Choosing Jere over Paris, Jere over Laurel, and now Jere over Taylor herself... that's not being in love. That's getting lost in codependence.
Belly snaps at Taylor for her TikTok therapy and her selfishness, at which point Steven bursts in to defend Taylor and announce that Jere's back.**
Amid the assembled guests, Denise plays wing-woman to Steven, nodding toward Taylor, who's really going with that wet, crispy beach-hair look for the wedding, I guess. Belly's words dug into her skin, but Steven assures her they're not true. Also, he's not with Denise. A long, hopeful look passes between them before wedding planner Paige (Sarah Hudson) hustles them off.

Jere is, in fact, back and is icing his punching hand in a champagne bucket when he finds Susannah's ring with a note from Conrad saying that he asked Adam to bring it for Belly. So he's getting the girl, the ring, the wedding, and the parental approval. It's everything he wants, but his face says it might not be enough.
Conrad, meanwhile, steps into the bridal suite to apologize and tell Belly he's leaving and won't be back for a long, long time. But whatever happens, loving her was all worth it.
And now it's time for Belly and Jere, both dressed for their wedding, to finally have it out. He knows she loves him, but he needs to know if she loves Conrad, too.
Belly's aware that this is the crossroads moment of her life, and she chooses honesty. Yes, a part of her does love Conrad and probably always will.
That's not enough for Jere, who wants all of her. Oh, and by the way, he knows Belly lied about seeing Conrad over Christmas. **record scratch* *Wait, Jere knew??
Yep, a neighbor mentioned seeing Conrad in Cousins when he stopped by Susannah's grave, and he waited and waited for Belly to tell him. When she didn't, he picked that fight before Cabo. He also knows that things between his brother and his girl weren't strictly platonic this summer, no matter how much they tried to convince him it was.
Is… is this a slight Jeremiah redemption? Him knowing all of this all along casts this season in a new light, down to his insistence on getting married ASAP. It's not how he should've handled things, obviously, but it's at least a reason for some of these decisions.

Jere's final reveal is what he read in Conrad's letter: Susannah wrote she'd only seen her oldest boy in love once, and that was with Belly.
"You can't marry me to erase him," he says, but at the same time, he doesn't know how to *not* love her. So she lets him go.
Laurel's there to let her fall apart, and Steven brings his bro a beer and silent support. (The soundtrack of this heartbreak is "Cardigan," for the record.)**

One thing to note: Laurel collects Belly's unread letter from Susannah, Conrad barely glances at the one Jere handed him, and Jere hasn't seen his at all, which means they can all still read Susannah's words on whatever their wedding days turn out to be.
A deflated Belly pulls on jeans, packs a bag, and leaves the key Jere gave her for her birthday on the counter, saying a silent goodbye to the beach house along with the Fisher brothers.
She heads to the airport and buys a ticket to Paris over the counter — YAY!!! but good lord, how much did that *cost*? — and while she's in line to board the plane, she glimpses an equally deflated Conrad quietly waiting for his own flight back to California.
She takes a breath and steps out of line toward him.
**Kissin' cousins corner**
- Wowwwowwwowww. So that happened. Congrats to Team Conrad, and sympathies to Team Jere. Also, can you imagine if that was the series finale??? It's not, of course; we have three more episodes to go. But how deliciously ambiguous that would've been!
- Although John's (Colin Ferguson) the one making what sound like cancellation calls, how mad do we think Adam is right now? Not just about the money, which has to be significant, but the failed social event for his business buddies? Eh, it's just as well. Something tells me the wedding industry's about to be reinvigorated thanks to the newly engaged Ms. Swift.
- The line of the episode is actually the nonverbal of the episode this week, and there's a tie: Laurel's "don't forget to smile" motion at Steven as he walks down the aisle during rehearsal and Steven's little disgusted choke when he slams a flute of champagne. Those Park-Conklins are such sweet dorks.
- Speaking of the next three episodes, *The Summer I Turned Pretty *book readers know that the events of "Last Kiss" happen in the final chapter of the final book in Jenny Han's series, with the story concluding on a short epilogue that follows. So whatever unfolds over the next three hours is going to be mostly uncharted territory. I can't wait.
