Adam Devine was famously flippant about his *Pitch Perfect *audition, initially believing it to be a baseball movie because he didn't read the script.

Recently, he shared a bit more about why he was so nonchalant about the film. Speaking on *Mohr Stories, *Devine said he was focused on his show *Workaholics *at the time.

"I did not prepare for that audition," he said. "I did not want to go on it. It was a thing that my agents made me do. And *Workaholics*, we were in the midst of shooting the second season and I was like all in."

The *Righteous Gemstones* actor said the sitcom was growing in popularity. He wanted to make sure the second season rode the momentum from the first. Despite his disinterest, his agents rearranged his shooting schedule so that he could make the audition during his lunch break.

"I'm like, 'Fine. F---. So, I'm going to miss lunch now?'" he said.

He arrived at the audition and realized that it was a musical film after seeing his competition practicing songs in the waiting room. Devine thought he "blew it" before he even got to try out. Still, he went through with it, quickly memorizing his lines.

"The scenes went great and they're like, 'What song did you prepare?'" Devine said. "And I'm like, 'I didn't prepare a song.'"

The *Modern Family* actor could only think of the lyrics to the *Full House* theme song. Up until this point, he really wanted the movie because the audition had otherwise gone well.

While he thought he blew it at the end, Devine wound up landing the role of Bumper in *Pitch Perfect. *His character eventually got his own spinoff in 2022: *Bumper in Berlin*.

Meanwhile, *Workaholics* did all right despite Devine's detour into the a cappella world. The show ran for seven seasons on Comedy Central between 2011 and 2017, and it was supposed to get a movie adaptation, but it was scrapped by Paramount+ in 2023.
