Nicolas Cage is taking on an instantly iconic new role: Joseph, husband of Mary and adopted father of Jesus.
That's right, the actor is playing Joseph in the supernatural thriller inspired by the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas, *The Carpenter's Son*. And now viewers get a titillating look at Magnolia Pictures' upcoming flick, directed by Lotfy Nathan and drawing from his Coptic Christian background, with its first trailer, released on Wednesday.

A mysterious stranger (Isla Johnston) catches the eye of young Jesus and works to entice him to abandon his devout father's rules. With every temptation, Jesus is lured into a forbidden world, and a terrified Joseph soon realizes that a demonic power is at work.
As violent, unnatural events inexplicably follow Jesus, he begins to experience nightmarish visions of the future. When he finally learns the truth about his new friend, it comes with the damning reveal of their real name: Satan.
"*The Carpenter's Son* delivers a meticulously crafted, genre-bending supernatural thriller packed with unshakeable images of the divine and demonic at war," Magnolia Pictures promises in a press release for the movie.
