LeBron James might be out to start the NBA season, but he's been plenty busy off-court: The Los Angeles Lakers forward announced Thursday that he has written a Halloween-themed children's book. The book, called "Happy Spooky Halloween!", will released next July 21.

James announced the book release on social media. In a video, James said that Halloween is his "favorite holiday," and that he was "so excited" to announce the book.

"This is a bucket list item for me for real," James wrote in the post on social media. "To have my own spooky book coming for my favorite time of year is giving me goosebumps!"

In the post, James noted that he grew up reading the "Goosebumps" books, a children's horror series by R.L. Stine. It is unclear if his book will emulate Stine's works.

While written by James, the book is illustrated by Ariel Landy, a illustrator who has drawn for a number of children's books, including "A Dragon for Hanukkah" and the "Good Dog" series, according to her agency.

It is unclear when James found the time to write the book, though it's possible he's picked up the pen while being sidelined to start the 2025-26 season. James was diagnosed with sciatica on his right side during preseason, and is expected to miss at least the first month of the year.

With James out, and with other star Luka Dončić missing at least a week with a sprained finger and leg contusion, Lakers guard Austin Reaves has stepped up. Reaves dropped a career-high 51 points the day Dončić was ruled out, and hit a wild buzzer-beater on Wednesday to lead L.A. to a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Lakers coach JJ Redick told reporters after Wednesday's game that they were aiming for James to return in the second or third week of November, though he remained vague about the timeline. In the meantime, James could always decide to keep writing in his time off.
