The Dark Knight is in for a rough night.

The infamous Batman comic book storyline of the '90s known as "Knightfall" — which introduced the supervillain Bane and saw him break the Caped Crusader's back — is being adapted into multiple animated films, Warner Bros. announced Friday at New York Comic Con. The project promises to bring to life "one of the most iconic and beloved runs in the rich history of Batman comics."

The first installment, bearing the unwieldy title *Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall*, is currently in production and slated for release in 2026.**

Published by DC Comics from April 1993 to August 1994, the "Knightfall" saga consisted of three parts — "Knightfall," "Knightquest," and "KnightsEnd" — in which Batman/Bruce Wayne met his match in the super-strong, super-smart bad guy Bane. After Bane took Batman down, the hero was temporarily replaced by a new, more unstable and violent Batman.

*Knightfall Part 1 *is being directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams. Rick Morales serves as supervising producer alongside producers Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau. Sam Register and Michael Uslan are executive producers. The voice cast has not yet been revealed.

The film's logline teases, "When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman's entire Rogues Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point."**
