Amazon is known for being horrible to its employees and wonderful to its users, but new legal troubles paint a different picture. The Federal Trade Commission is the one pointing the finger here, filing a major antitrust lawsuit against Amazon. Here's what to know about the Amazon settlement, who will receive payments, how much to expect, and when it will arrive.
What Was the Claim of the Amazon Lawsuit?

According to the FTC, Amazon created traps that "enrolled millions of consumers in Prime subscriptions without their consent, and knowingly made it difficult for consumers to cancel." Amazon was ordered to pay $1 billion in civil penalties and $1.5 billion in refunds.
Amazon, naturally, claimed they did nothing wrong. Yeah, this company is famous for that.
Who Is Eligible for Payment?

There are a few qualifiers in order to be eligible:
You must have signed up for a Prime subscription between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025
You must have either tried and failed to cancel your membership or signed up via "challenged enrollment flow," which just means any subscription that began through a few select pages, like the "Universal Prime Decision Page, the Shipping Option Select Page, Prime Video enrollment flow, or the Single Page Checkout."
You must also have used your Prime benefits three or fewer times over the course of a 12-month enrollment.
What Is the Maximum Payment I Can Receive?

While a payment is always nice, don't get too caught up in that $2.5 billion. The maximum payment you can get, because of the sheer number of people also getting paid, is $51.
When Will the Amazon Payments Be Sent?

Payments have begun, and Amazon claims they'll all be sent by December 24.
