Rainn Wilson is considering a unique career change. **

During a visit to *Late Night with Seth Meyers* on Wednesday, the *Office* alum revealed that he is thinking about pivoting away from acting to become a death doula.**

"Well, as my celebrity star is fading — and it's fine — I may put acting behind me," Wilson told Seth Meyers. "And there's this beautiful occupation called death doula."

The 59-year-old, who often has conversations about spirituality on his Soul Boom podcast, explained that death doulas aren't that dissimilar from the doulas who provide guidance and support through a person's pregnancy journey.**

"It's a different kind of birth, right?" Wilson said. "It's a birth into the next phase of our existence, because I fully believe in the continuation and journey of the human soul beyond the material realm. And most world faiths agree." **

Wilson noted that the role is also pivotal in helping to "celebrate" what can be a particularly scary time in a person's life.

"To be there to usher someone with beauty and respect and dignity from this life to the next, to help the family transition, to understand what kind of legacy you want to have, how you want to celebrate what is kind of a painful transition that is often ignored in Western society," he said.**

Meyers added that having a death doula present may also "take the fear out" of dying and make it a "calming experience" for everyone involved.

"Yeah, and I think that there's a lot of hope to give people," he said. "There's a lot of meditation you can bring — contemplation is the word I was looking for — that you can bring to the process. 'Celebratory' is kind of the wrong word, but how you can create a healing space for you and your family to mourn, to grieve, to celebrate, and to ponder this next mysterious step?"

"Well, I would like you to keep doing both," Meyers replied. "I don't want you to stop one just to work on the other, but I think you'd be very good at both."**

To which Wilson responded, "Well, thank you so much."

While he may be best known for starring as the over-analytical Dwight Schrute on the U.S. version of *The Office*, Wilson's film and television career heralds back to the late '90s. His credits include films like *Almost Famous, Juno, The Rocker,* as well as TV shows such as *Lessons in Chemistry, Dark Winds, *and* Utopia. ***
