The Queen of the Dead and her zombie army in 'Marvel Zombies' episode 4. Credit:
- *Marvel Zombies *premiered on Disney+ on Sept. 24.
- The limited series is a continuation of the animated show *What If...? *and sees the Avengers in a world taken over by zombies.
- Everything falls apart by the finale, leading to a bleak conclusion.
Believe it or not, the zombie apocalypse has reached the MCU.
Created by Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells, *Marvel Zombies* expands on the "What If... Zombies?!" episode from the Disney+ animated series *What If...?* (2021–2024). The new limited series picks up five years after that storyline, delving further into the timeline where a horrible virus turned Earth's mightiest heroes (and villains) into flesh-eating monsters.
In this brutal continuation, a team of surviving superheroes faces off against undead versions of their former allies. With all four episodes now streaming, read on as* * breaks down the ending, including who lives and who dies.
What happens to the Avengers?

(L to R) Awkwafina as Katy, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, Todd Williams as Blade, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi in 'Marvel Zombies' episode 4.
After zombie Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen), now fully embracing her role as the Queen of the Dead, turns the Asgardians into part of her massive zombie army, only a small number of heroes make it out alive: Kamala (Iman Vellani), Blade Knight (Todd Williams), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), and Katy (Awkwafina).
The group manages to escape New Asgard on a spacecraft, but they don't get very far, as the Nova Corps shows up and declares that Earth is quarantined and they aren't allowed to go back to help.
Blade finally enters MCU in 'Marvel Zombies' trailer — but it's not Mahershala Ali

As the finale begins, the Nova Corps shoots down their ship, but the heroes are saved via magical portals and transported to Kamar-Taj.
There, the team encounters Spider-Man (Hudson Thames) and Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), who is now a floating head in a jar that can fly, courtesy of Doctor Strange's cloak. Sorcerers Rintrah (Adam Hugill), Sara (Sheila Atim), and the London Master (Daniel Swain) then appear, and it's clear the final battle is imminent.
The sorcerers also reveal that Bruce Banner has become Infinity Hulk, a living vessel for the Infinity Stones. His body is the only thing preventing that power from destroying the world, but the Queen of the Dead now has an army powerful enough to take it from him.

Zombies versions of Kate Bishop, Red Guardian, and Ironheart in 'Marvel Zombies' episode 4.
As the fight begins, Infinity Hulk holds his own until the Avengers arrive to help. It's then that the Queen of the Dead urges Kamala to help steal Hulk's power, claiming her friends would have otherwise died in vain.
"I'm trying to save you all," Wanda says. "If you stop me, Kate and Riri would have died for nothing. You are blind to your own salvation. If I can't convince you, maybe your friends can."
Enter the zombie versions of Riri (Dominique Thorne), Kate (Hailee Steinfeld), and Red Guardian (David Harbour), who corner Kamala as the Queen of the Dead makes her move.
The Avengers and sorcerers die trying to stop her, but it's too late, as she grabs hold of Infinity Hulk's arm and begins draining his power.

Kamala, Riri, and Kate go out for boba in 'Marvel Zombies' episode 4.
With all of her allies gone, Kamala is on her own. The Queen of the Dead then reappears as human Wanda in an attempt to coerce the teen into helping her.
"I need you… We can fix this," she says. "You'll help me bring them all back. Kamala, look around. The suffering. Save them. Take my hand. All will be made whole. You can still save the world, like you always wanted."
"This can't all be for nothing," Kamala says, and with that, she takes the Queen of the Dead's hand.
A surge of blinding energy erupts, and soon enough, Kamala finds herself back in New Jersey. There, she reunites with Kate and Riri, and the friends head out for boba.

Kamala still sees zombies on the street at the end of 'Marvel Zombies' episode 4.
But things get weird when Kamala sees flickers of zombie faces in the crowd. Then, she sees the *real *Riri (who actually survived) fighting off said zombies.
This other Riri tells Kamala that none of what she's seeing is real, and that's when Kamala realizes she didn't save the world; she gave it away to The Queen of the Dead.
The series ends on a dark note with a menacing shot of the Queen of the Dead before the screen goes black.
