Hockey rinks are cold, but *Off Campus* is going to be hot.

** has your exclusive first look at Prime Video's upcoming TV adaptation of Elle Kennedy's bestselling hockey romance book series. Creator/co-showrunner Louisa Levy promises that the first season, based on 2015's *The Deal*, is going to be just as steamy and sex-positive as fans want.

"There's something really unique and special about college-age romances where it's not really that first love kind of vibe, it is something potentially more, and you're still discovering so much about yourself," Levy tells EW. "It's more mature and sexier than high school. These characters are so sex-positive, especially in the first book, which is the tentpole of our first season. It's this really deep romance that also has nuances of exploring who you are in the bedroom. There's really lovely elements to who you want to be as a human that gets reflected in the steamy sex scenes that we have coming up this season."

Just like in Kennedy's books, the TV show is about an elite collegiate ice hockey team and the relationships between the players and the women in their lives. The first season follows the unlikely romance between Briar University's hockey captain Garrett (Belmont Cameli) and quiet songwriter Hannah (Ella Bright), seen in EW's first look photos (above and below).

"Hannah and Garrett are from opposite worlds — he is a jock and she is an artsy good student, and there's a lot of tropes that come along with both of those identities," Levy says. "As they get to know each other over the course of the season, they discover that each of them is more than the meets the eye."

The two originally cross paths when Hannah agrees to tutor Garrett in exchange for his help in making her crush jealous. But their fake date becomes something much more real for both of them — if only they can work through their issues and admit how they really feel about each other.

"Both of them have their own secret past that they each get to unpack for the other. That's ultimately what makes them so right for each other; they see each other on a deeper level than the rest of the world sees them, and that lays the groundwork for a really interesting, mature romance."

While Levy — who serves as co-showrunner along with Gina Fattore — had never heard of the *Off Campus *books before she was approached to take on this series, she instantly fell in love with the world of the Briar University hockey team as she read them.

"I was like, 'hockey romance what?!'" Levy says. "And as an American, I wasn't as familiar with hockey. It was really exciting to learn about the sport and also learn about the subgenre of hockey romance that I didn't know existed before this series. I really got hooked mostly by the characters and the unexpected journeys that they go on. And then the more I've learned about the sport, the more I've fallen in love with it and the male friendships and the team aspect of it. The culture of hockey has just fully captured my heart."

That said, Levy has a warning for fans of Kennedy's books as they're adapted from the page to the screen.

"We really want to honor the book and where these characters are coming from, but we only have eight episodes to do it as opposed to a full novel," Levy says. "So there are some moments that I'm sure the fans will be very excited to see that we are not able to dramatize or find a way to do that to the full length. But we really are going to honor the book and do our best to honor the characters and be true to them and also do our best to include as many Easter eggs as possible of both plot points and moments from the book."

Levy adds that every important moment from Hannah and Garrett's love story will be included in some way this season. "Just maybe it'll show up in a way you don't expect," she says.

*Off Campus* is currently in production, and a premiere date has not yet been set.
