- *House of Guinness *debuted on Netflix on Sept. 25.

- The historical drama centers on the real-life Guinness brewing family in 19th-century Dublin.

- The series stars Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn, and Fionn O'Shea.

From *Peaky Blinders *creator Steven Knight comes *House of Guinness*, an historical drama on Netflix that centers on the world-famous Guinness dynasty.

The series, which takes places in 19th-century Dublin and New York, kicks off just after the death of the family patriarch, Sir Benjamin Guinness, "the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery," per the official synopsis.

What follows is a *Succession*-like drama as his four adult children — Arthur (Anthony Boyle), Edward (Louis Partridge), Anne (Emily Fairn), and Ben (Fionn O'Shea) — each strive to make their mark on the family business.

Below, we dig into the *House of Guinness* cast and their real-life inspirations. When available, we've included a side-by-side comparison of the actors and the historical figures they're bringing to life.

After making a name for himself on stage, Anthony Boyle has become a go-to for historical dramas. You may know him best for taking his portrayals of real-life figures on *Masters of the Air*, *Shardlake*, and *Say Nothing, *all released in 2024. He even played the infamous Abraham Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth in the 2024 Apple TV+ miniseries *Manhunt*.**

He'll next be seen playing another real-life figure, Sam Bankman-Fried, on Netflix's *The Altruists*, which costars Julia Garner as Bankman-Fried's business partner Caroline Ellison.

PEAKY BLINDERS, Cillian Murphy,

On *House of Guinness*, Boyle plays Arthur Guinness, the eldest of the Guinness brothers. In a recent interview with *Town & Country*, Boyle shared what inspired him to play Arthur. "I felt Arthur, he had so much in him. There was so much complexity and so much fun. I'd never played a role like him."

According to the Dictionary of Irish Biography, Arthur and his younger brother, Edward, inherited a significant portion of the brewing empire. He decided to exit the business in 1877, selling his stake to Edward.

Outside the company, Arthur pursued a political career, stepping into his father's parliamentary seat in Dublin. Though corruption forced him to step down, Arthur regained his position in 1874 and served until 1880. He died on Jan. 20, 1915.**

Louis Patridge, recently nicknamed "Mr. Olivia Rodrigo," rose to fame with his breakout role in Netflix's *Enola Holmes* (2020) and its 2022 sequel. He's since appeared on series such as *Pistol* (2022) and *Disclaimer* (2024).

Partridge will soon reprise his role as Tewkesbury in *Enola Holmes 3,* and join Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden for Netflix's upcoming adaptation of *Pride & Prejudice*.

Partridge steps into the shoes of Edward Guinness, 1st Earl of Iveagh, the youngest and most ambitious of the Guinness children. "I like that Edward really knows what he thinks and he's assertive," the actor told Netflix's Tudum. "He can be strong when he needs to be, he's confident."

In 1877, Edward took full control of the family brewery after buying out his older brother Arthur's shares, per the Dictionary of Irish Biography. He was known for his philanthropy and unionist support, having invested heavily in the welfare of his workers.

When the company opened up to public investors in 1886, Edward continued as chairman for several years and stayed deeply connected to the business until he died in 1927.**

Emily Fairn as Anne Plunket (née Guinness)

After taking on supporting roles in movies and shows like *The Responder* (2022–2024), *Mary & George* (2024), and *Saturday Night *(2024), Emily Fairn steps into a lead role on *House of Guinness*.

The actress plays Anne Plunket (née Guinness), the sole daughter among the Guinness siblings.

Anne's inheritance was much less compared to that of her brothers, but she dedicated her share to helping those in need. She also faced chronic health issues and died in 1889 at just 50.

"Her body is turning against her and making her less powerful," Fairn recently explained to *Town & Country*. "She's battling against herself and society and her family and how everyone has pushed her to be in this box. They want her to sit in the corner and look nice and she's like, 'That's not what I want to do.' Then, instead of finding power for herself, she does it for the people who don't have voices."

Fionn O'Shea as Benjamin Lee Guinness II

Fionn O'Shea is best known for playing Jamie on *Normal People* (2020), though he's also appeared in projects like* Handsome Devil *(2016) and *Wolf *(2021). O'Shea also performed alongside Boyle on *Masters of the Air *(2024).

Next, O'Shea will share the screen with Andrea Riseborough and Richard E. Grant in *The Queen of Fashion*, a biopic about fashion editor Isabella Blow.

Here, O'Shea transforms into Benjamin Guinness II, the second-oldest brother of the Guinness clan. Benjamin was a member of the Royal Horse Guards, and married Henrietta Lawrence, the daughter of the 3rd Earl of Howth.

The show paints Benjamin as an outcast battling addiction.  "When we first meet Ben, he's battling a lot of demons," O'Shea told Tudum. "He has never really been given a chance to be someone within the family. He feels like a ghost in his own home — ignored, overlooked."

On the series, Galligan portrays Lady Olivia Hedges-White, a real-life aristocrat from a once-prominent family. In real life, she married Arthur Guinness in 1871.

According to Grazia, Lady Olivia was passionate about painting, so much so that she became a member of the Water Colour Society of Ireland.
