Noah Cyrus would like you to know that all the headlines and speculation about tension in her family over the years don't affect them.

During a recent interview with PEOPLE, the 25-year-old singer and actress addressed the public's "fixation" on her family, which ramped up in the past few years after her parents, Tish Cyrus-Purcell and Billy Ray Cyrus, filed for divorce in 2022 after reconciling following their previous 2010 and 2013 filings. Speculation of strife was rampant as the family largely remained mum on the rumored rift.

"I keep myself quite separated from any interest or 'drama' with the family," Noah told PEOPLE. "The one thing that's connected us with the entire world is music, and that's what's the most important to us."

She admitted that the attention "emotionally is draining," but asserted that the glare from the public's spotlight "doesn't hurt us or touch us. It's something that you really learn to keep separate and far away from yourself."

In the time that followed Tish and Billy Ray's divorce, the latter announced his engagement to singer Firerose in November 2022. A year later, Tish married *Prison Break* star Dominic Purcell, with Miley Cyrus reportedly serving as the maid of honor at the ceremony, which also included her siblings Brandi and Trace.

Outlets reported that Noah's absence from the wedding was due to a rift between her and Tish because Noah had been romantically involved with Purcell for several months when Tish started pursuing him.

Billy Ray then filed for divorce from Firerose in June 2024, after seven months of marriage. The ex-couple settled their contentious split that August.

Billy Ray also made headlines this year after his unusual performance at Donald Trump's second inauguration. The incident prompted his son, Trace, to pen an open letter calling for his father to seek help.

Shortly after, Billy Ray posted on Instagram that he was praying for his loved ones. "Praying for my family," he wrote. "For my children… sons and daughters… and their mother."

He then announced a new relationship with Elizabeth Hurley in April. The couple first met while filming the 2022 movie *Christmas in Paradise*.

Miley herself addressed the rumors of friction within her family during an appearance on the podcast *Reclaiming With Monica Lewinsky* in June.

"My family and I have had a really difficult… What did you call your decade? Dark decade. Yeah, we had one of those," Miley told host Monica Lewinsky. "Half of us weren't speaking to each other at one point, and we cleaned all that up. That was a really important part of my year this year, was all of my family putting those lines of communication back together. A lot because of, you know, I had a lot of loyalty to my mom, the way that families do when parents get divorced."

Miley said the implosion within her family was fueled by conflicts left unresolved for decades.

"But I just kind of bust through the pile that's stacked, and just go, 'I'm here. You're here. Let's start by having a good time together,'" she said. "And then as we start bringing some happiness and joy into each other's life, then we'll just be in a better place to have these conversations. 'Cause I'd rather get it balanced first."

Looking back on their period of unrest two months after Miley's revelation, Noah told PEOPLE that her family is on the other side of all the "drama."

"Everybody's great and loves each other," she said. "I think when you grow up with that being normal — things being public — that it doesn't quite reach you. At the end of the day, this is a family, and that's really it: just going through normal family stuff."

And nothing says family togetherness like working on an album together. Noah told the outlet that her latest album, *I Want My Loved Ones to Go With Me*, features four generations of Cyruses. The track "Apple Tree" features a sample of a recording of a hymn written by her great-grandfather, sung by her paternal grandfather. "With You," was the first song her dad, Billy Ray, ever wrote. And her Fleet Foxes duet "Don't Put It All on Me" was written by her brother Braison.

She explained that the song's lyric "The words that were spoken / Mean nothing to me" strikes a particular chord when it comes to her family dynamic.

"I think that really sums up a relationship with a sibling," Noah said. "There's so many times, especially in my relationship with my siblings growing up, you fight and you say things — but that's your family, and they're always going to be there for you, and I'm lucky enough to say that that's been my case with me and my siblings and my family."
