Loni Anderson's cause of death has been announced three weeks after her death at age 79.

The *WKRP in Cincinnati* actress died from metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma on Aug. 3, according to a death certificate published by TMZ. No underlying conditions or contributing factors were listed.

Leiomyosarcoma is a rare type of cancer that can develop in smooth muscle tissue areas like the digestive system, blood vessels, and uterus, according to the Mayo Clinic. Symptoms can include weight loss, nausea, vomiting, pain, and swelling under the skin. Uterine leiomyosarcomas only have an annual incidence of 0.35-0.64 per 100,000 women — less than 0.001%, according to research in the National Library of Medicine.

Anderson's remains were cremated and buried in Hollywood on Aug. 7.

The actress' longtime publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan, confirmed her death to ** on Aug. 3.

"We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother," her family said in a statement.

Anderson was best known for playing secretary Jennifer Marlowe on all four seasons of *WKRP in Cincinnati* from 1978 to 1982. The role earned her two Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe noms. She also reprised her role on *The New WKRP in Cincinnati* in two episodes from the 1991-1992 season.

Many of Anderson's friends and former costars paid tribute to the late actress on social media after her death.

Tori Spelling, who played Anderson's daughter on 2006's *So Notorious*, described her onscreen mom as a "legend" in an Instagram tribute.

"She represented kindness, humbleness, and pure grace," Spelling said. "She taught me so much. We laughed, we cried, she was as real as they got, while simultaneously knowing her worth. When you think of a star, Loni was truly that."

Morgan Fairchild, who acted alongside Anderson in the Lifetime movies *Ladies of the '80s: A Divas Christmas* in 2023, said she was "heartbroken" to hear the news of the actress' death.

"The sweetest, most gracious lady!" she wrote on X. "I'm just devastated to hear this."

Tim Reid, who played Flytrap on *WKRP in Cincinnati*, described Anderson as "one of the dearest friends I've had" in an Instagram post.

"Such a wonderful woman," he wrote. "We had some fun! I'll miss her and pray that her transition be peaceful and glorious."

*I Dream of Jeannie* star Barbara Eden, who considered Anderson a "dear friend," also expressed her remorse.

"She was a real talent, with razor smart wit and a glowing sense of humor… but, even more than that, she had an impeccable work ethic," Eden wrote on X. "Even beyond that, Loni was a darling lady and a genuinely good person … I am truly at a loss for words."**
