2025 Emmy winner predictions: Outstanding Drama, Comedy, and Limited Series

Our picks for which shows will (and should) win in the big three categories come Emmy night.

To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin, nothing is certain in life except death, taxes, and Netflix's *Adolescence* winning the Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series.

But the rest of the 2025 Emmys race is full of toss-up categories — including two big ones, Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Comedy Series. Will it be *Severance* or *The Pitt*? Can HBO Max's *Hacks* secure its second win, or will the star-studded Hollywood satire *The Studio* give Apple TV+ the first win in this category since* Ted Lasso* season 2?

Read on for our picks in the Emmys' three biggest categories — and check back for updates as the race progresses between now and the end of final-round voting on Aug. 28.

Drama Series

Adam Scott on 'Severance,' Noah Wyle on 'The Pitt'.

**Who will/should win: *Severance***** Both *Severance* and *The Pitt* deserve to win, but alas, a tie is very unlikely. And since Noah Wyle is the frontrunner to win in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category — another very close race — voters will want to reward *Severance* star (and exec producer) Adam Scott by giving him a big win here.

Comedy Series

**Who should win: *Hacks***

**Who will win: *The Studio*****Voters bestowed 23 (!) nominations on this inside-baseball, cameo-packed comedy that lovingly mocks the movie industry for its many, many absurdities. *The Studio* is fun, and it has the momentum right now — but I hope voters take another look at *Hacks*, which outshines the Seth Rogen romp with its sharp-as-ever writing and stellar performances.

Limited Series

*Adolescence*, Netflix***Black Mirror*, Netflix***Dying for Sex*, Hulu***Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story*, Netflix***The Penguin*, HBO

**Who will/should win: ***Adolescence*** The only thing that makes me sad about this is that *Dying for Sex* — a heartbreaking and often hilarious cancer comedy starring Michelle Williams — could get shut out. It won't win here, and there's a chance Williams will lose to *The Penguin*'s incredible Cristin Milioti in the Lead Actress/Limited category. *Adolescence*'s breathtaking star Owen Cooper will almost certainly take the win over *Dying*'s wonderful Rob Delaney in the Supporting Actor category, while *Adolescence*'s Erin Doherty currently has the edge over *Dying'*s excellent Jenny Slate in the Supporting Actress race. But in the interest of spreading the love, voters will *probably* give Williams the win. All we know for sure, dear readers, is that *Adolescence* is a lock here.****

The 77th Emmy Awards air Sunday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
