William Rush, a British actor best known for starring inWaterloo Roadhas died. He was 31.

The actor's mother, Debbie Rush, shared onInstagrama photo of him smiling as she confirmed that he died on Wednesday, Dec. 17.

"As a family, our hearts are completely broken, and there are no words that can truly capture the depth of our loss," she captioned the post. "Even in our darkest moment, William gave the most precious gift of all.

"Through being an organ donor, he has given hope and life to other families, thinking of others right to the very end," the formerCoronation Streetactress said. "His kindness and love will forever be part of his legacy.

"We kindly ask that our privacy be respected as we navigate this unimaginable grief," Debbie concluded. "William will always be loved, always missed, and forever in our hearts."

His cause of death has not been revealed.

William was best known for playing the role of Josh Stevenson in the high-school based dramaWaterloo Road.

He starred in 168 episodes between 2009 and 2013, according to theBBC.

The livestream appeared for at least eight minutes late Thursday on whitehouse.gov/live, where the White House usually streams live video of the president speaking.

It's unclear if the website was breached or the video was linked accidentally by someone in the government. The White House did not immediately respond on Friday to a message seeking comment.

The video that appeared on the government-run website featured some of a more than two-hour livestream from Matt Farley, who posts as @RealMattMoney, as he answered financial questions.

Farley did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment on Friday, but on his X page, he shared a link to a story about his video appearing on the website and said, "There's no way this is real, right? I was just trying to stream with my buddies."

President Donald Trump's administration and campaign have had a series of digital security breaches and challenges over the last year.

In May, government officials began investigating after elected officials, business executives and other prominent figures received text messages and phone calls from someone impersonatingSusie Wiles, the Republican president's chief of staff.

Last year,Iran hacked into Trump's campaign. Sensitive internal documents were stolen and distributed, including a dossier on Vice President JD Vance, created before he wasselected as Trump's running mate.

LOS ANGELES - Lit by the fluorescent lights of the Arco gas station, Nick Reiner walked out of the am/pm market thirsty. A blue Gatorade in hand.

Security footagecaptured the moment near the University of Southern California on Sunday, Dec. 14.

Dressed in jeans and a green track jacket, a baseball hat covering his dark hair, a red backpack slung over his shoulders, he waited at the bus stop near Exposition Park, a place often filled with homeless people.

Alexis Hernandez, a security guard at the market, crossed paths with the 32-year-old. It was the beginning of a typical night shift as Nick exited.

"He acted normal," Hernandez says.

Nick cut across the street to the bus stop, where Los Angeles Metro Bus 204 could take him as far as Hollywood.

Hernandez watched as officers with the Los Angeles Police Department and U.S. Marshals descended on the bustling S. Vermont street, followed by USC police. The waning crescent moon hung overhead.

Around 9:15 p.m., law enforcement orderedNickto the street and handcuffed him, face down.

He was 15 miles from home. Wanted for killing his father. And his mother.

Now, Nick is in downtown Los Angeles jail, held without bail, charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killing acclaimed directorRob Reinerand his wife, producer and photographer Michele Singer Reiner. Prosecutors addedspecial circumstances to the charges, which mean he could face the death penalty.

The tragedy has gripped Americans who grew up with Rob Reiner. Through a career that spanned six decades, Rob toldheartfelt storieslike "Stand By Me" and "When Harry Met Sally." He carried us through generations from Michael Stivic's Meathead on "All in the Family" to playing America's dad including on the millennial favorite "New Girl." Rob changed the way we love, think, and laugh. Michele, with her passion and fierce love for family and friends, helped drive him. ("She is my Bunsen burner that lights the flame in my ass" he once joked.)

Actors and friends, including politicians and celebrities, have shared anecdotes about one of the last Hollywood greats, and called the couple's deaths a tragic ending to a storybook life.

'He's in a really good place'

Rob Reiner spent fall promoting"Spinal Tap II: The End Continues."The sequel came 41 years after he directed the cult hit, a mockumentary about a metal band. (He and his wife and their three children, Jake, Nick and Romy, met withPaul McCartneyon set when the former Beatle filmed a scene for the long-anticipated sequel.)

As part of the press run before the film's release, Rob sat down with NPR's Terry Gross, who also asked him about 2015's"Being Charlie."

"Your son co-wrote it. You directed it," Gross said. "And it seems like it's semi-autobiographical because your son had dealt with a drug addiction."

Rob had rarely been asked about Nick since that very singular collaboration. It was, Rob said, his most personal work; and both talked about the turbulent times the family faced during the time he battled addiction - the guilt Rob and Michele felt as parents. The worry and stress Nick had imposed on the people who loved him so much. But that was all behind them, it seemed.

"Did you feel like you were sometimes too busy to pay attention to him?" Gross asked, bringing up those painful teenage years.

"No. no, I was never, ever too busy," Rob told her. "I'm sure I made mistakes. You know, he's been great. He hasn't been doing drugs for over six years. I mean, he's in a really good place."

The second son of the great director, who had openly talked about how hard it was grow up with a famous dad – a man who also struggled in the shadow of his famous father, Carl Reiner, until he found his own path – was growing up.

Nick told apodcaster Paul Mecurioin 2016 that talking about addiction isn't difficult. What was difficult was when he shared vulnerable stories only to be told  "you're a spoiled, white, rich kid," by the world.

But he and his father agreed that talking about addiction helped others.

"That's what we do it for, to start that conversation," Nick said on the podcast. "I think I'm lucky because I have parents that care about me. … When I would go out and do drugs I would feel a tremendous amount of guilt. They are thinking about me, they want me to do good."

The family of five celebrated the Spinal Tap sequel's movie premiere in Los Angeles on Sept. 9, posing for photos on the "black carpet."

Photos and videos of Rob on his daughter's Instagram account in May of this year show their closeness – sweet conversations and silly interactions.

Romy, 27, who lives close to her parents' home, shared photos with her dad two days after Thanksgiving.

She and her father are in their swimsuits floating in the waves of a turquoise ocean, Rob in his Spinal Tap baseball cap. "Thankful for family, health and followers of any age. Not thankful for the president and the state of our country," she wrote.

A person close to the Reiner familytold the New York Timesthat nothing in recent weeks suggested that Nick would be capable of the violent murders. He also said that Rob and Michele had not been apprehensive about Nick's behavior lately.

Barry Markowitz, the cinematographer for "Being Charlie," stayed at the Reiners during a visit to Los Angeles three weeks ago,he told The Wall Street Journal. He, too, said Nick seemed to be doing well and he watched him playing tennis.

Friends have said Nick was living in the guest house of the Reiners' Brentwood area home. It's the same guest house where he once told a podcaster that he had suffered from a "cocaine heart attackand I started punching out different things."

A night with friends

Conan O'Brien's annual Christmas party is known as a who's who of comedy in Los Angeles. Past guests have included Martin Short, Adam Sandler and Tom Hanks.

The get-togethers are full of laughter and lots of food, and one year, a gust of wind sent the patio fire pit embers onto an outdoor couch, setting it ablaze. O'Brien's wife put it out with a fire extinguisher, comedianBill Hadersaid.

Rob and Michele attended with Nick this year on Dec 13. O'Brien lives close to the Reiners, a windy 1.7 miles away in a gated and hedge-surrounded mansion in an area of Pacific Palisades spared by this year's fires.

Nick wasn't invited to the party, but his parents brought him along because they were reluctant to leave him alone due to recent behavior, according tothe Hollywood Reporter.

Hader was there, as was Jane Fonda.

Nick wore a hoodie when others were dressed more formally. He caused a scene at O'Brien's house: He stared at guests and asked them their first and last names and if they're famous, and yelled at his father, according to media reports.

Nick acted "entitled," a family friend told People; others have said the episode was overblown. Nick was simply trying to make his way in the shadow of his father and grandfather, others have said.

What people agree on, and even Nick has said, is that the Reiners really wanted to help their son.

At some point during that Dec. 13 party, the three of them left O'Brien's house.  It's unknown if they left together or if they all returned home.

The next day, Rob and Michele had planned massages at their home, and dinner withBarack and Michelle Obama.

A massage therapist says she arrived Sunday, Dec. 14, and when no one answered at the wooden gate to the family home, she called the Reiners' daughter.

Romy came to the house.

At 3:38 p.m., police were called.

Soon, yellow caution tape surrounded the Reiners' home, and neighbors said they saw the Reiners' close friends Billy Crystal and Larry David headed toward the house that afternoon.

Los Angeles police held a press conference just before 9 p.m., only saying thattwo people had been found deadin the house.

By then, police already were focusing on the couple's youngest son, Nick.

Nick, reports suggest, was not far from the family home. At some point on Dec. 14, he went to the Pierside Santa Monica hotel, sources have toldThe Los Angeles Times, possibly early Sunday morning. Hotel workers told the Times that police began investigating on Dec. 14. It's unclear what led them to the beach-themed hotel, which sits a few blocks from the Pacific Ocean, and 11 miles from the Reiners' Brentwood area home. They did not find Nick.

By 9 p.m. on Dec. 14, Nick seemed to be traveling on foot, stopping into the am/pm market 18 miles from the hotel. Security cameras captured him walking in and leaving, then returning to buy a blue Gatorade. He wasn't in a rush. He strolled across the parking lot.

Within 15 minutes, Nick was taken into custody. He was booked into the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, a county jail in downtown Los Angeles in the early hours of Dec. 15.

On Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m., prosecutors charged Nick with two counts of first degree murder. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office says Rob and Michele Reiner died from "multiple sharp force injuries." Prosecutors have yet to share what made police focus on him as a suspect, or a potential motive.

On Dec. 17, wearing a blue protective smock, Nick appeared briefly in a special holding area of a Los Angeles courtroom away from cameras.

Nick's attorney, Alan Jackson, asked the court for patience, requesting the arraignment be delayed until Jan. 7.

The judge asked the defendant if he was waiving his right to a speedy arraignment.

"Yes, your honor," Nick said quietly.

Two hours after their brother's court appearance, Jake and Romy Reiner shared this statement: "Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends."

The couple, friends say, had lived a storybook life.

Rob Reiner was considered America's dad in so many ways. Most important, he and Michele were mom and dad to Jake and Romy. And Nick.

SAO PAULO, Dec 19 (Reuters) - Eve, the electric aircraft unit of Embraer, said on Friday its full-scale "flying ​car" prototype has completed its first flight, marking a key ‌milestone toward certification.

Eve is among several firms developing battery-powered aircraft capable of vertical take-off ‌and landing for short urban trips, a sector analysts see as crucial for Embraer's future growth.

The company, which has amassed almost 3,000 pre-orders for its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft ahead of production, expects ⁠type certification, first deliveries ‌and entry into service in 2027, a year later than initially planned.

The inaugural flight at Embraer's Gaviao ‍Peixoto plant kicks off Eve's flight test phase, with "hundreds of flights" scheduled next year to support certification.

The test validated aircraft architecture, fly-by-wire controls and integrated propulsion, ​Eve said. The timing was in line with its previously ‌announced plan to complete the first flight in late 2025 or early 2026.

"The prototype behaved as predicted by our models," said Eve's Chief Technology Officer, Luiz Valentini. "With these data points, we will expand the envelope and progress toward transition to wingborne flight in a disciplined ⁠manner."

Eve plans to build six conforming ​prototypes for the test campaign.

The head of ​Brazil's civil aviation regulator ANAC told Reuters earlier this year he saw 2027 as the realistic timeframe for certification ‍of the aircraft, ⁠which he described as the regulator's top priority.

Eve debuted on the New York Stock Exchange in 2022 and this year ⁠raised additional funds from Brazil's state development bank BNDES and Embraer. Other investors include ‌United Airlines, BAE Systems, Nidec, Thales and Acciona.

The Mississippi River Bridge, also known as the Black Hawk Bridge, was completed in 1931. It connects Lansing, Iowa, to Wisconsin. The landmark stands out for its unique cantilever design — a center arch and two tower-like trusses.

"It carries a lot of sentimental value to, I mean, literally tens of thousands of people," Lansing Mayor Michael Verdon said.

The bridge, which closed in October, was the only one for about 30 miles (48 kilometers) in each direction and carried about 2,100 vehicles per day. Drivers can now use a ferry service while a new crossing is under construction. The new $140 million replacement is expected to be in service in 2027.

Though it's beloved, the narrow bridge made for a harrowing experience when two large trucks met, Verdon said. Barges sometimes struck the bridge because of the river geography and configuration of the bridge piers.

Officials are expecting a large crowd to witness the implosion, he said. Alive video will be available online.

The center span will be imploded first, followed by the eastern section later in the day. The western section will disassembled in the future because parts of the bridge extend over homes and the railroad.

Some parts of the bridge have already been removed, but an implosion is the most efficient way to remove the largest portions of the superstructure, Iowa Department of Transportation spokesperson Daniel Yeh said.

Residents plan to salvage material for keepsakes and to construct a tribute to the bridge in the city, Verdon said.

Lansing, population 968, has deep roots as a river town with a history of steamboats, fur trading and commercial fishing, the mayor said.

The NDAA, a $900 billion must-pass defense bill, takes a major step towards reducing distractions for tens of thousands of students, according to theREFOCUS DoDEA Act. The provision is co-led by Banks and his Armed Services committee colleague Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich. Their committee has federal jurisdiction over the schools on military bases.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Banks said the key provision has national security, recruitment, and retention implications.

"We invest in them [our troops], we train them, we pay them, and if they serve in the military for ten or 12 years and decide to get out because their kids are going to a crappy school, that's a national security issue," Banks told ABC News.

"It's a retention issue," he said, adding, "We've got to do something to address it and improve it."

Thomas Toch, the director of FutureEd -- an education policy center at Georgetown University, said cellphone bans can be a "necessary step" to improving educational outcomes for students, including those on military bases.

There are over 65,000 students at 161 schools in U.S. military bases in 11 foreign countries, seven states, and two territories (Guam and Puerto Rico), according to Banks.

Banks, a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Afghanistan, told ABC News that military families are interested in improving schools on base and have been pushing for change.

"It's frustrating for them," Banks said, adding, "It's the only option for them, so they want Congress to do more to focus on improving the DoDEA schools."

Banks said he believes the U.S. is in a military recruitment crisis that the Trump administration has been addressing broadly at the Department of Defense, but cracks in the military base schools' education systems have driven families away from serving.

"This is one small step that I think will have a big outcome, but hopefully we'll draw more attention to how these schools are operated and what we can do to improve them," Banks said.

Here are the states banning cellphones in schools and what it means for students

The defense bill, titled the "Restoring Our Educational Focus on Children of U.S. Servicemembers at DoDEA," passed 77-20 in the Senate on Wednesday. President Donald Trump signed the bill into law on Thursday.

The Department of Defense now has a one-month window to address how it will implement the bans.

"Not later than 30 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Director of the Department of Defense Education Activity, shall prescribe regulations prohibiting the use, during the school day, of smartphones by students in schools operated by the Activity," according to the bill text.

After the vote, Slotkin contended Congressional leaders have a "responsibility" to work in a bipartisan fashion to help parents with the best cellphone ban guidance.

"It is better and healthier for kids not to be looking at their phones while they're trying to learn," Slotkin told ABC News. "It's the first step in a bigger movement to banning cell phones in all K-12 schools across the country."

Student smartphone usage continues to be one of the most contentious issues for school communities. While many states have at least partially banned cellphones in the classroom, some are still leaving those decisions to their local education agencies, according to adata analysisconducted by ABC News this fall.

Overall, Indiana and 19 other states (including D.C.'s public schools and the Virgin Islands) have completely banned wireless communication devices -- including personal phones or tablets -- for the entire instructional day.

There are, however, exceptions for students with disabilities who have individualized education programs. Banks and Slotkin's proposal to ban smartphone use on federally run K-12 DOD campuses also includes medical exceptions.

Meanwhile, student disengagement remains one of the most pressing problems in education since the COVID-19 pandemic, according to some education experts.

At the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) committee's State of K-12 Education hearing in September, Harvard Graduate School of Education Professor Martin West said that smartphones are a key driver of mental health challenges, a distraction from learning -- both inside and outside of schools -- and a deterrent to reading.

Schools that banned phones saw surprising results beyond fewer distractions

However, one of the top concerns for some parents and families is their ability to contact their children at school in case of an emergency, especially with the influence of recent school shootings. School leaders previously told ABC News that students should not be on their cellphones during a school emergency and Slotkin argued that there's growing concern about children having 24/7 access to them.

"There's a whole bunch of technology issues that parents are worried about," she said. "Cellphone access is just one of them, but there's a real passion behind figuring out the right way forward for our country."

For Banks, the issue impacts his three daughters, who are in middle and high school back home in Indiana.

"They're so much better off without cellphones in their classrooms," Banks said. "Taking their cellphones out of the classroom and eliminating that as a distraction is good for them."

After missing three games, Ball was 7 of 9 from 3-point range in the first half. He finished 8 of 11 on 3s and had 28 points and 13 assists in just over 29 minutes. Charlotte also made 18 3s in a half March 14 at San Antonio. Six teams have done it once.

The Hornets spoiled Atlanta star guard Trae Young's return from a knee injury. Young had eight points and 10 assists in 20 minutes. He sprained the MCL in his right knee in a game at Brooklyn on Oct. 29.
