- *Smile: For the Camera* and *A Quiet Place: Storm Warning* comics will spin off new stories from the horror movies.
- IDW Dark will also release a sequel to *The Exorcism at 1600 Penn* and a new Dracula comic called *Operation: Iron Coffin*.
- The creative teams tease what's ahead in 2026 from IDW Dark.
Smile...because a couple horror movies are expanding with their own comic book stories.
*Smile* and *A Quiet Place* are both getting comic offshoots alongside two new original horror comics from IDW Dark, *The Exorcism at Buckingham Palace* and *Operation: Iron Coffin*, ** can exclusively reveal.
From writer Hannah Rose May (*Rogues' Gallery*, *The Exorcism at 1600 Penn*) and artist Miriana Puglia (*Red Sonja*, *Gargoyles*) comes *Smile: For the Camera*, a story set within the universe of the two *Smile* horror movies. Set in 2005, the title follows a group of international models in New York amid Fashion Week festivities when they're stalked by the Smile Entity.
May tells EW in an emailed statement she's had "a disgustingly good time" writing the comic, which hits stands this February. "Like how *Smile 2* took us inside the world of a present day pop star, our series throws it back to the early 2000s and drops the Entity right into the ruthless world of the modeling industry," she says.

In a separate statement, Puglia, whom May praises for her "poppy art" style, points out, "I love the scenes relating to the hectic life of those working in this field, the behind the scenes of a fashion show and the constant need to be aesthetically top notch at all times (even when you are infected by the Entity). I am having a lot of fun imagining each scene, especially the tension and fear of turning the page!"
Next up is *A Quiet Place: Storm Warning*, hitting stands next March from writer and layout artist Phil Hester (*Gotham City: Year One*, *Swamp Thing*) and artist Ryan Kelly (*Lucifer*, *Stranger Things*).
'Smile 2' director says sequel was inspired by Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston

The first two *A Quiet Place* films saw a family struggling to survive rural upstate New York after the Death Angels, flesh-hungry alien monsters that hunt through sound, arrived on Earth. A prequel movie, *A Quiet Place: Day One*, then took us to New York City at the start of the invasion. There's also been a video game, set in a different spot in upstate New York, while Paramount Pictures moves ahead on *A Quiet Place: Part III*.
*A Quiet Place: Storm Warning* now takes us to a small island town in the midwest, Pearl, Iowa.

"As a franchise, I think *A Quiet Place* stands out for two reasons," Hester says. "Each movie is a relentless torrent of suspenseful action, but with a genuinely moving drama at its core. Secondly, it's an innovative formal exercise in visual storytelling without dialogue. With *A Quiet Place: Storm Warning*, I feel Ryan Kelly and I have replicated those qualities, but in an entirely different medium."
Hester mentions both he and Kelly connected to the chilling tale as midwesterners themselves, while teasing this as "a horror series unlike any other book on the stands."
*Smile: For the Camera* and *A Quiet Place: Storm Warning* follow previous efforts from IDW Dark, the horror imprint of IDW Publishing, to expand more Paramount-owned titles into the realm of comics. EW previously revealed first looks at a *Sleepy Hollow* sequel to the Tim Burton classic, as well as a black-and-white *Twilight Zone* anthology.
But IDW Dark continues to beef up their slate of original horror titles, as well. *The Exorcism at Buckingham Palace*, arriving in March, is one such original.

It's a formal sequel to *The Exorcism at 1600 Penn*, which followed the United States' first female president as she grappled with demonic entities plaguing the White House. May returns as the series creator and writer, alongside chief artist Kelsey Ramsay (*Godzilla: Heist*, *Dark Spaces: Good Deeds*), to tackle a new horror story about London's royal residence and its shocking family curse.
"I've been truly humbled by the response to *The Exorcism at 1600 Penn*," May says. "Returning to this world with the team at IDW Dark has been an absolute thrill. *The Exorcism at Buckingham Palace* expands the universe with a brand-new setting, cast, and mythology. It's a fresh entry point for new readers, while rewarding the fans who've been with us since the beginning. I'm delighted to have Kelsey Ramsay on board for art and we can't wait to welcome everyone into the next chilling chapter of *The Exorcism at* universe."
The final confirmed new title (for now) is *Operation: Iron Coffin* (coming in July 2026), which involves Dracula fighting Nazis on a train during World War II.
Writer Kenny Porter (*Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow*, *Batman: Urban Legends*) and artist Tyrell Cannon (*Fantastic Four Fanfare*, *The Schlub*) deliver a story spun off from Bram Stoker's vampire classic. "A British bomber drops an iron coffin onto a heavily fortified Nazi train full of superweapons," a description reads. "Dracula emerges, ready to tear through hordes of enemies and stop Hitler from creating an army of vampires to win the war."

"I can't wait to share this bold new take on Dracula with the world," Porter comments. "Working with Tyrell is always a dream, and we've got a really unique, horror/action take on the character that fans of *Castlevania*, *Metal Gear*, and *Hellboy* are going to love."
Cannon calls *Operation: Iron Coffin* a "wild take on Dracula," adding, "As a lifelong horror fan, drawing Dracula verses the ultimate evil is a dream (nightmare?) come true. Get on board for this bloody train ride!"
Heather Antos, Group Editor of IDW Dark, comments on the publisher's meaty lineup to kickstart the new year. "At IDW, we love nothing more than keeping readers up at night — and with these new titles, we're about to unleash a quadruple shot of terror to kick off 2026," she says. "From royal hauntings to apocalyptic silence to Fashion Week frights, this lineup proves horror can be elegant, inventive, and downright terrifying. Buckle up...because the nightmares are only getting started."
Readers can pre-order any of these titles through a comic book shop near them.**
