A rapper who campaigned for Donald Trump at a 2024 rally in New York City has been sentenced to five years in prison on attempted murder and conspiracy charges.

Michael Williams, the 27-year-old rapper known as Sheff G, received the sentence in Brooklyn Supreme Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree attempted murder and one count of second-degree conspiracy in March. The Brooklyn District Attorney's office argued that Williams used earnings from his music career to fund gang violence in the New York City borough. In addition to serving five years in state prison, Williams has been ordered to five years of post-release supervision.

The White House did not immediately respond to **'s request for comment, but an automated reply did note "staff shortages resulting from the Democrat Shutdown," further asking to "please remember this could have been avoided if the Democrats voted for the clean Continuing Resolution to keep the government open."

Citing surveillance videos, text messages, and social media posts, prosecutors allege that Sheff G not only compensated gang members for firing on and killing their rivals, including 23-year-old Theodore Senior, but that on one occasion he acted as a getaway driver during one shooting.

"This defendant had talent and opportunity, but chose to use them to fuel violence instead of building a better future," Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in Wednesday's post-sentencing release. "Together with the NYPD, we have driven gun violence in Brooklyn to record lows by focusing on dangerous individuals, like Mr. Williams and his cohorts. I can only hope that this measure of accountability will lead him to taking a different path and using his influence in a positive manner."

Williams' charges are a part of a staggering 140-count indictment handed down in May that alleged crimes committed by 32 members of two gangs, including committing shootings, possessing guns, and using stolen cars during shootings.**

Williams appeared on stage alongside Trump on May 23 at a campaign rally held in the Bronx borough of New York City.

"Here as well as rapper Sheff G, does everybody know Sheff?" Trump said to the audience. The current president then handled the rapper's weighty gold necklaces, commenting, "I like that!" before passing him the mic.

"One thing I want to say, they're always going to whipser your accomplishments and shout your failures. Trump will shout the wins for all of us," Sheff G said.****

Sheff G is best known for the 2017 song "No Suburban," and had a following of millions across streaming services and video hosting sites. He is known as one of the leading figures in Brooklyn's drill scene, a gritty rap subgenre that originated in Chicago.

The rapper also appeared at the 2024 campaign event alongside rapper Sleepy Hallow, who shouted "make America great again" into the microphone. Last week Sleepy Hallow was sentenced by the same judge, Justice Danny Chun, to one year in jail following his guilty plea to a fourth-degree conspiracy charge.**
