Play is incredibly important to Tom Holland.

The Marvel actor, who currently stars in a new LEGO short film that promotes the importance of play, recently spoke with IGN about how the message is particularly special to him after being diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia.

"I think [play] really does help. I have ADHD and I'm dyslexic, and I find sometimes when someone gives me a blank canvas that it can be slightly intimidating," Holland told the outlet. "Sometimes you are met with those challenges when developing a character."

Tom Holland is seen on the set of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' on August 3, 2025 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The *Cherry* star said that he believes in tapping into his inner child through "play" in order to get himself prepared for any given role.

"Any way that you can, as a young person or as an adult, interact with something that forces you to be creative and forces you to think outside the box and make changes," he continued. "I think that the more we do that sort of stuff, the better."

Holland has previously opened up about working with his dyslexia, which he was diagnosed with at age seven.

"My dyslexia, it's really just my spelling," he explained during an appearance on Jay Shetty's *On Purpose* podcast in July 2023.

The *Uncharted *star credited his parents, Dominic Holland and Nikki Holland, for their support. "My spelling was really the biggest hurdle. I worked really hard at school. I didn't do particularly well, but my parents said, 'As long as you try your best.'"

The star has become a model example for fans struggling with similar endeavors. Not only has Holland managed to overcome his disorders, but he's thriving in a career that allows him to be as creative as he wants.

Holland is currently hard at work bringing everyone's favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man back in action in the upcoming *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*.

The highly-anticipated Spider-Man film is Holland's fourth solo outing as everyone's favorite wall crawler, and his seventh overall film as Peter Parker since he debuted as the character in 2016's *Captain America: Civil War*. In addition to appearing in the two-part *Infinity Saga* finale — 2018's *Avengers: Infinity War* and 2019's *Avengers: Endgame* — he starred in three solo Spider-Man movies: 2017's *Homecoming*, 2019's *Far From Home*, and 2021's *No Way Home*.

When we last saw Spider-Man, he had saved the multiverse by allowing the entire world to forget the existence of his true identity. Though Peter came out victorious, *No Way Home* ended on a somber note, with him visiting his girlfriend, MJ (Zendaya), and his BFF, Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), neither of whom remember who he is.

As the memory reset also stripped Peter of his access to the Avengers and the high-tech resources left by his mentor, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), he will be back to superhero basics in Brand New Day.
