Rachel Bilson is still baffled that she lost a job for getting too candid about her sex life.
During a visit to Nicole Byer's *Why Won't You Date Me* podcast, the *Hart of Dixie* star opened up about being fired by an unnamed company after going in depth about her bedroom preferences in a 2023 podcast.
"Did I want to fight it? Absolutely," Bilson said. "Look, I can see both sides. When you take something out of context and you read something as a standalone comment, it can come off a certain way, sure."
But, Bilson argued that the context for the conversation is key, noting that she was "talking basically with girlfriends" and "joking around" when the offending statement was made.
"I said something like, 'I like to be manhandled,'" she explained.
Byer then quipped, "That's nice. 'Throw me around.'"

Bilson said a similar response came from plenty of other women who heard the podcast.
"Olivia [Allen], who cohosts *Bright Ideas* with me, her mom's like 83. She was like, 'I like to be manhandled!' You know? Like everyone could relate," Bilson argued. "But because I used that word in whatever context, they just took that out of the conversation. It didn't sound great. But I think it was a very conservative company so they weren't comfortable talking about sex at all, in general."
Bilson then reiterated, "We were joking around!"

Back in March 2023, Bilson got candid about her intimate preferences on the *Women on Top* podcast, divulging her favorites and least favorite sexual positions. At one point, she quipped, "I've learned that if you want to have an orgasm during sex, you have to be on top. Missionary is my favorite. I want to be f---ing manhandled."
Bilson later claimed that coverage of her comments led to blowback, which she opened up about on her *Broad Ideas* podcast a few weeks later.
"This is the first time it's ever happened to me in my professional life … I lost a job this week because of things that were said and then spun in the press," she said at the time. "A job got taken away from me because I was speaking candidly and openly about sex in a humorous way."
Though she did not express any regret over her comments, Bilson shared that it took an emotional toll to lose a job that way,
"I cried," she shared. "I'm a single mom like I need these jobs ... everything counts. You know, I provide a lot for my family — my daughter — and regardless of anything else, it all matters."
The actress, who shares daughter Briar Rose, 10, with ex-Hayden Christiansen, added that she was "baffled" to lose the job so abruptly, adding, "I didn't even have a chance to defend myself."

While chatting with Byer, Bilson admitted that she couldn't help but begin to censor herself in the aftermath of that incident. "I definitely felt myself like filtering a little after that," she said. "Like 'Oh my god, if I say this am I gonna lose this job? Am I gonna be judged? Shamed?"
Despite those fears, Bilson has continued to be candid on her podcast with Allen, opening up about everything from suffering miscarriages to parenting to a flirty encounter she once had with Justin Timberlake.
