Matthew McConaughey is sharing his bedroom secret for a happy marriage.

In his new book, *Poems & Prayers, *the *Interstellar* actor claims that all couples should sleep in a queen-size bed.

"I can tell you what this is about," McConaughey said while visiting *The View* on Monday. "So, check this out: We go to a friend's house when we first were about to have kids, and he had these two king-size beds put together. Two! Because he had kids and the kids would come sleep."

McConaughey explained that he and his wife Camila Alves, who first began dating in 2006, were initially on board with the idea. The couple, who tied the knot in 2012, share three children together: Levi, Vida, and Livingston.

"'Oh, what a great idea!' So we do that, and the kids come sleep, and then what happens?" McConaughey asked, prompting moderator Whoopi Goldberg to reply, "They don't leave."

McConaughey added that when the kids finally did get comfortable sleeping in their own beds, he found himself experiencing a brand new problem.

"They're not coming to bed, and you're waking up and you're going, 'Oh, hey, honey!' She's about 20 feet over there," he teased, noting that such a great distance is "not productive for snuggling."

In addition to spilling his marriage secrets, McConaughey also shared how he helped his real-life son Levi land the role in his new film *The Lost Bus *by omitting his famous surname.**

"I always pitch the story to the family, and there's a part of the story where Kevin has his son," McConaughey explained. "And my son Levi goes, 'Well, how old's the boy?' I said, 'About 14, your age.' He said, 'Do you think I could read for it?'"**

The actor said Levi asked him "four more times" about the role before he ultimately agreed to help his son film his audition tape. **

"I put him on camera, I said, 'Okay, he can hold the screen, he's being honest in front of the camera,'" McConaughey remarked. "I sent it to the casting director, I said, 'Francine, I think this might be good enough for a callback.' And she writes back, 'I think it might be good enough to send to the director.'" **

Which is when McConaughey asked that she "pull [Levi's] last name" before sending it to Paul Greengrass, because he didn't want it to be a deciding factor in Levi's audition. **

"[Greengrass] looks at it, he goes, 'This is the kid!'" McConaughey said. "She goes, 'Well, that's Matthew's son.' He goes, 'Even better!'"

*The View* airs weekdays on ABC.**
