Shingles is a viral infection that creates a painful stripe of blisters across on one's body, per the Mayo Clinic. It is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which stays in one's body for the rest of their life after getting chickenpox and may activate years down the line as shingles. **
For Davis, her shingles developed across her forehead and onto her nose.**
"I got a blistery rash that went down my face," she said, tracing the outline of the blisters. "It was so scary. I thought shingles only happened on your torso, right? Like, your body. I've learned so many things."

Davis also admitted that she was surprised by the unexpected ailment because she considers herself to be in good health. **
"I take such good care of myself, at least I try," she said. "What I didn't realize is that we know, scientifically, that when you're over 50, your immune system weakens. So even if you're doing all the things, you can still develop shingles."**
It's why she's advocating for others to speak with healthcare professionals about the condition. **
"What I learned is you need to talk to your doctor or your pharmacist about your risks for shingles and prevention," Davis said. "Talk to your own doctor, because everyone's gonna have their own specific situation."

She opened up further about the condition and how it impacted her career in a subsequent Instagram video.**
"Of course, I'm an actress and I am in the middle of shooting a show. We had to change the schedule. I couldn't work, which I think is possibly the first time in my career that I have not been able to go to work," she confessed. "We changed everything so that I could recuperate and it worked out, but I don't want anyone to ever have to go through that."**
