- *Ted Lasso* season 4 is officially in production, with star and executive producer Jason Sudeikis returning as the folksy, bright-eyed coach.
- The new season finds Ted back in Richmond, coaching a second division women's football team.
- Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift will reprise their roles.
Apple TV+ wasn't going to let *Ted Lasso* go so easily.
The feel-good sports comedy, after all, was the nascent streamer's first bonafide hit series. Based on a character played by *Saturday Night Live* alum Jason Sudeikis in NBC Sports promos, the series was developed by Sudeikis and *Scrubs* creator Bill Lawrence, as well as Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly, who envisioned Ted Lasso as an American football coach who takes a job coaching an English soccer team destined for failure.
*Ted Lasso* debuted in August 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and went on to cultivate a loyal audience across three heartfelt seasons. An Emmy favorite, it won 13 statues across its run, including Outstanding Comedy Series.
Sudeikis openly discussed how he'd envisioned a three-season arc for the show, going so far as to say the story was "done" in an interview following the finale.
That said, he always appeared open to the idea of Apple continuing the series in some shape or form. "I'm glad they are willing to pay for those three seasons," Sudeikis told ** in 2021. "As far as what happens after that, who knows? I don't."
In March 2025, Apple TV+ announced the show would officially return for a fourth season, and it was revealed in July that filming had officially begun. So, now that we know it's definitely happening, let's break down everything we know about *Ted Lasso* season 4.
How did Ted Lasso season 3 end?

The* Ted Lasso* season 3 finale ended with Ted leaving his job at AFC Richmond and returning to Kansas to reunite with his son. Back in the States, he coaches his kiddo's soccer team.
In what may or may not have been a dream sequence, we see happy endings for several other key characters. Roy (Brett Goldstein), for example, is named the new AFC Richmond manager, with Coach Beard (Hunt) sticking around to lend a hand. Keeley (Juno Temple) cooks up the idea for a Richmond women's team.

Hannah Waddingham's Rebecca, the owner of Richmond, bumps into her Amsterdam mystery man (Matteo van der Grijn), teasing a future romance.
The season 3 finale plays it coy in terms of who Keeley chooses in her love triangle with Roy and Jamie (Phil Dunster), though Temple told EW that she thinks Keeley ultimately "ends up with Roy."**
Will there be a Ted Lasso season 4?
Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso on 'Ted Lasso'.
Yes, Apple TV+ announced in May 2025 that* Ted Lasso* would come back for a fourth season with Sudeikis returning as both the titular character and as an executive producer. At the time, it was also announced that Lawrence, Goldstein, and Hunt would return as executive producers, with Goldstein also serving as a writer. A new addition to the producing team is *30 Rock* alum Jack Burditt.
On NPR's *Wild Card* podcast, Goldstein compared the show's resurrection to that of a dead cat. "I have a friend that I went to university with, and I think about this a lot," Goldstein said. "He had a cat that died. He loved his cat. And the cat was run over, and they buried the cat. He was a child. They buried the cat in the garden, and he lay in bed so sad, so upset and crying, and he prayed and he wished, 'I wish the cat would come back.'"
He continued, "And then the cat did come back, and it turned out the cat they buried wasn't their cat. I think about that all the time. I'm like, no wonder this guy is f---ed in the head, because he thinks death isn't real, so of course he's insane. He's such a weird guy 'cause he thinks he can bring things back from the dead... I guess I'm saying I feel like that kid. Like, we buried it. We all cried, we had a funeral. Are you saying we can bring anything back?' It's too much power."

In a statement shared with the season's official announcement, Sudeikis said, "As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to 'look before we leap,' in season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it's exactly where they're meant to be."
Back in March, Sudeikis revealed to Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce's *New Heights* podcast that Ted would be coaching a women's team in the new season.
The official logline confirms that the season will find Ted back in Richmond and coaching a "second division women's football team." It continues, "Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would."
Waddingham teased the new season in a May 2025 interview on Capital FM. "Our writers are literally Jedi Knights. They're just incredible," she said. "And we've got like a full room of real feminist men. So we've got all the fabulous women there, and the men that are in there, and I think you really see it in the scripts."
