The 21-year-old addressed the support and the pushback after winning the competition and earning her wings.

Solange Omon issued a response to fans upset about her monumental victory at the 2026 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. The 21-year-old was announced the winner of “Angels Among Us,” a modeling competition series with the prize of being named a Victoria’s Secret Angel, among other prizes, with the purpose of launching a professional career. According to Women’s Wear Daily, more than 100,000 applicants were narrowed down to the final three contestants, with Omon joined by hopefuls Andreina Martínez Fournier and Tatyana Tinsley.

According to the outlet, Omon is originally from Cameroon but is now a resident of Maine and, on paper, the least experienced of the finalists. After being revealed as the winner during the annual runway show, Omon was met with both support and critique, some of which she says crossed a boundary.

In screenshots of her IG stories uploaded by TheJasmineBrand, the model responded to hateful rhetoric based on her gender and race.

“I understand this was a competition. Everyone had their favorite, and you are allowed to be disappointed that your favorite didn’t win,” she explained. “You don’t have to be happy that I won.” However, Solange made it clear that some of the backlash has crossed a line, adding, “But this is no longer about who you wanted to win. This is racism!!!”

“I wanted to speak about this because this isn’t only personal to me. I’m a Black woman, but there are so many Black girls and women who experience things like this every day,” she continued to detail, adding, “I’m happy, I’m proud, and nothing can take this joy away from me.”

Omon joined the ranks of Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, Barbara Palvin, Elsa Hosk, Doutzen Kroes, Anok Yai, Alex Consani, Irina Shayk, Joan Smalls, and Ming Xi in her Victoria’s Secret debut. Megan Thee Stallion, Kylie Jenner, Trinity Rodman, Natalia Bryant, and more also hit the catwalk for the loungewear and lingerie brand.

“Solange has a spark that’s entirely her own, and that’s exactly what makes her such an exciting addition to the next generation of Angels,” Hillary Super, CEO of Victoria’s Secret & Co., shared with PEOPLE Magazine.

“Her joy, confidence and individuality embody what the next generation of Angels stand for — women who are unapologetically themselves, who dream big and who inspire others to do the same. We’re thrilled to welcome Solange to the Victoria’s Secret family, and I can’t wait for the world to get to know her.”
