Meryl Streep's fashionably fabulous return as Miranda Priestly in *The Devil Wears Prada* sequel *definitely* didn't originate at a hideous skirt convention.

Two days after the July 21 date a source told * *that *The Devil Wears Prada 2 *was set to begin filming in New York City, the first photos of Streep's grand return as the ruthless *Runway* magazine editor circulated Wednesday from the set of the sequel's production.

The photos below show the 77-year-old walking by a set of trailers back in character, sporting Priestly's signature icy hair, dark shades, and a color-blocked outfit complete with a taupe jacket, purple blouse, and a pair of heels matched to a similarly hued leather skirt.**

In EW's 15th anniversary oral history interview that reunited the cast in 2021, Streep, costumer Patricia Field, and director David Frankel discussed Streep lobbying for the character's hair to appear in its platinum-white tone.

"Meryl told me she [wanted] to have white hair.… I said to Meryl, 'I can't convince [the producers]. They have in their mind that white hair is gray hair,'" Field said at the time, while Frankel added, "The first time Meryl was Miranda Priestly was a meeting with the head of the studio. Meryl channeled Miranda in that meeting, and there was no conversation about the hair; they looked into Meryl's eyes and never said a word."

Current photos of Streep during production of the sequel came after fellow returning *Devil Wears Prada *star Anne Hathaway shared earlier this week a first look at herself in costume as Andy Sachs, the aspiring journalist who, in the 2006 original, reluctantly joins Priestly's magazine as her assistant and subsequently experiences the devastating lows and soaring highs of life on the fast track in the world of editorial high fashion.

In addition to Streep and Hathaway, OG stars Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, and Tracie Thoms will also reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel, while original director Frankel and original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna have also returned in their respective capacities, as well.

EW also exclusively reported in June that Adrian Grenier, who played Andy's boyfriend, Nate, in the first film, would not return for the sequel, before later exclusively breaking news that the film's central love interest would now be played by Australian actor and *Evil* supporting star Patrick Brammall.

Plot details for the sequel are currently under wraps, though it was reported that other new cast additions include Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Rachel Bloom, Pauline Chalamet, and Kenneth Branagh, among others.

Frankel directed the first film — based on writer Lauren Weisberger's novel inspired by her time working under *Vogue*'s Anna Wintour — to two Oscar nominations (one for Streep, and the other for Field's costumes) and a $327 million global haul at the box office.

Elsewhere in EW's 2021 interview, Frankel revealed that initial discussions about a sequel were held around the time of the movie's initial release, with McKenna offering insight as to where a sequel could potentially go.

"Magazines and publishing have changed so much. This is a period of time where [Andy] took a physical book to someone's house every day so she could leaf through it," McKenna said at the time. "Maybe they still do that, but I doubt it. It had its moment!"
