When it comes to his art, Pete Davidson is willing to put everything on the line — including his sight.
The actor-comedian is reflecting on a mildly traumatic experience he had while working on his new horror movie,*The Home.*
He recounted the crazy story during his interview on the latest episode of *The Tonight Show* after host Jimmy Fallon whipped out the film's poster.
"That is your eyeball," Fallon observed, pointing to it. "That's a needle."
Indeed, the poster showed an eyeball just millimeters away from a pretty threatening-looking needle. Though Davidson knew this scene would be in the movie when he signed on for it, he had no idea that he'd be as involved in the shoot as he was.

"Obviously I read the script and was like, 'That won't be my eye. This is the movies! It'll be a CGI eye,'" he told Fallon. "If you can bring people back from the dead and put 'em in a movie, then that's not my eye."
But the *Saturday Night Live* alum had a pretty rude awakening when he arrived on set to find three "concerned" doctors. "I'm like, 'What's going on?' and my buddy James [DeMonaco], the director, goes, 'They're here for your eye.' I was like, 'What do you mean?'"
According to Davidson, DeMonaco insisted that they capture the real thing because Davidson has "very recognizable eyes." And he couldn't be convinced otherwise.
"I said, 'Even if that is me, no one's sitting there being like, 'That's Pete's eye,'" Davidson recalled. "No way."
But eventually he gave in and agreed to having his eye held open by a lid speculum for the scene. According to the actor, it went pretty well and the team got most of the footage they needed — with one hiccup.

"I heard, in the corner, one of the doctors went to the director and goes, 'Yeah, in about 30 more seconds there's gonna be some real damage,'" Davidson revealed. "So I take the thing off. I'm like squirting it with water and stuff. I'm like, 'What the hell just happened?'"
He added that while he and DeMonaco were reviewing the footage later, the director turned to him and admitted, "Yeah, it didn't have to be your eye."

*The Home* stars Davidson as Max, a troubled man who takes a job in a retirement home only to stumble across a sinister secret that its residents and caretakers are harboring. The further he delves into his investigation, the more connections he discovers tying the titular domicile to his own past.

"There's actually some sick shit in this. It's very disturbing," Davidson promised Fallon's audience, before quipping, "I also filmed it three years ago in a K-hole, so you can enjoy that."
When the crowd didn't laugh at the reference to Davidson's struggles with substance abuse — which led him to check into a wellness center last year — the actor reassured them that all is now well. "I got out of the hole," he said. "I climbed out of the hole!"
Elsewhere in his chat with Fallon, Davidson celebrated the news that he will soon be a father, as he and his girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, are expecting their first child together.
"For anybody who knows me, it's my dream to be a dad, so I'm so excited," Davidson said. "Elsie's excited. I'm excited to see her be a mom. So we're stoked. Everything else doesn't really matter anymore. It's nice."
*The Home* lands in theaters on July 25. Get an eyeful of Davidson on *The Tonight Show* in the interview above.
